This article is complete nonsense and totally absurd. Geek was a sideshow act, true, but it is more in-tune with carnivals than circuses. An example of a "geek trick" is sticking a knitting needle through your arm, moving it back and forth, allowing the audience to look closely, then removing the needle, wiping off a spot of "blood" and showing that the arm is completely unharmed. This example is prime geek.
Perhaps worse is that the article completely ignores the current meaning of the term, as a person compelled to understand how things work. The term is often used as if it were interchangeable with "nerd" but it is not.

The vehemence of the criticism above is hard to understand. In my experience with common parlance as well as that of carnies, hoboes, criminals and prisoners, every time the term 'geek' was not used to mean nerd, a performer who bit the heads off animals was meant. - I agree...the article refers to geek show not geek in the first place...there is a separate article on geeks..it could possibly be relevant to explain how the term could be used in modern context for example describing some absurd media sensation or political campaign as a geek show but half of the world wouldn't know what you were talking about..the above poster seems to have a problem with the word geek. 15:58, 8 January 2016 (UTC)66.169.95.50 (talk)
