The taxonomic presentation for Gecarcinucidae is illustrated by a photograph of Gecarcinus. This genus is also included in the list of genera for this family of freshwater crabs. Unfortunately, Gecarcinus is a land crab, a member of the family Gecarcinidae. The confusion probably resulted from the similarity in names but the two families are not closely related and Gecarcinus deposits in eggs in marine waters, not fresh.

Reference Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).Ng, Guinot and Davie, 2008 Raffles Bulletin of Zoology 17: 1-286. It has one of the currently accepted classifications of the Brachyura (true crabs). Although there is still considerable controversy about the taxonomy of the Gecarinucidae, there is little controversy about the well-known genus Gecarcinus and its family, Gecarcinidae.

Suggestion: replace the picture of Gecarcinus with a photo of a gecarcinucid and delete the name Gecarcinus from the accompanying list of genera.
