Having visited Gawa last week, I seriously question the life expectancy of males as 36 years of age. I met several healthy looking elders and the children and women all looked pretty healthy as well (Jeremy 8 April 2008)

The text I wrote was based on the History of Elcho Island, not Gawa specifically. The health of the children at Gawa has greatly improved over the last 3-4 years that I have been assisting at Gawa with water problems. This is as a result of the 'Northern Territories Christian Schools Associations, (et al) large input and provision of healthy lunches to around 30-40 indigenous kids. The reference to male mortality is derived largely from Richard Trudgens book, "Why Warriors Lay Down and Die" see page 59. This situation has greatly improved over the last 10-20 years. Parts of the European settlement section appear to be factually inaccurate and politically biased (not to mention the grammatical errors and poor writing). It honestly reads like it was made up on the spot by someone. I know it's a low importance article but it is kind of ridiculous and needs fixed. 173.81.103.222 (talk) 23:31, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
