Gryposuchinae

[edit]

I saw that my edit was changed a little, why was Gryposuchinae deleted (kinda) on the species tree, is it even a grouping or a part of the other subfamilies? Also why the question mark on the subdivisions in the taxonomy template, also is it just an arbitrary group? Emmanuelbruh (talk) 01:15, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Read the Classification section on the Gryposuchinae page. It's current status is unclear. Gryposuchinae was created under the assumption that the false gharial (and larger Tomistominae) were not members of Gavialidae. But studies have been trending towards resolving the gharial and false gharial together within Gavialidae, which basically invalidates Gryposuchinae, rendering it paraphyletic. So yeah, its status is a bit uncertain at the moment. (The Tomistominae article also has some more background information on this false gharial issue.) So it’s status is kinda like Brevirostres's status or Borneo crocodile and even a little like Hall's crocodile Emmanuelbruh (talk) 01:03, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
