Largest Shopping Centre?=
[edit]The source that claims that Gateway is the largest centre is apparently from a smallish real estate agency - Unless a more reliable source can be found to back the claim up (I've heard claims from various people that Sandton City, Eastgate, and Canal Walk are the largest), the dubious tag will probably have to stay. - I found a better source that says Gateway was the largest when it openened. It is a difficult claim to still make, however, as many of the large centres are constantly expanding. For example, when Canal Walk openened after Gateway, it claimed to be the largest, and then Gateway expanded and supposedly overtook Canal Walk, etc. I edited the article to say Gateway is one the largest which I think is fair. - Raker 12:40, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Gateway is not the largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere. However, it is larger than Sandton City, Eastgate Shopping Centre and Canal Walk. The largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere is Centro Comercial Aricanduva located in Sao Paulo, Brazil which has 247 027m2 of retail floor area. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.110.243.144 (talk) 18:23, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
Gateway is no longer the largest mall in Africa (or South Africa for that matter) the honour now goes to Menlyn Park in Pretoria as of 2016. Multiple sources confirm this. --Setzor (talk) 11:47, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
Second Largest Shopping Centre in the Southern Hemisphere
[edit]Gateway Theatre Shopping Centre may be the largest shopping centre in Africa, but it is not the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. The centre features 350+ stores on 180,000m2 of land, whilst Chadstone Shopping Centre (in Melbourne, Australia) features 530 stores on 190,000 m2 of retail floor.[1][2] Chadstone has been the largest since late 2009[3]
