[edit]I'm thinking that Gasoline Alley, Alberta and Gasoline Alley, Alberta (hamlet) can be merged into one article. The Infobox can reflect the hamlet status, while the description of the larger Business Park can be added as a section. The two areas overlap considerably to the point that they are almost the same thing. -- MuzikMachine (talk) 00:14, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- I considered simply expanding this article with the content relating to the emergence of a new hamlet designation for the portion of this area but this article wasn't up to WP:CCSG standards, and the hamlet is a sub-area or neighbourhood of the larger area. It is less than 15% of the size of the larger business park. I opted for the new article based on larger area to small neighbourhood precedents such as: Ellerslie, Edmonton (area) and Ellerslie, Edmonton; Windermere, Edmonton (area) and Windermere, Edmonton; and West Jasper Place, Edmonton (area) and West Jasper Place, Edmonton. I think these precedents should be given more weight than Nisku as, in that situation, the one-block hamlet within pre-dates the industrial park, is surrounded by the industrial park, and will never grow (population 30). Rather it is more conceivable that it will contract and redevelop over time. Meanwhile, this hamlet is planned to grow to a size much larger than all villages in Alberta and larger than nearly half of all towns in the province, with future expansion plans to the northwest that will increase its population. - I just measured the size of the hamlet. It is ~200 ha in size. Gasoline Alley Business Park is 1,487 ha, including 627 ha in Gasoline Alley West and 860 ha in Gasoline Alley East. Therefore, the hamlet is 13.4% of the size of the larger area and is a neighbourhood within the larger area. Hwy43 (talk) 01:02, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Hwy43: That makes sense. Do you think maybe the articles should be renamed? Maybe Gasoline Alley, Alberta could reflect the hamlet while Gasoline Alley Business Park could be the larger park?. -- MuzikMachine (talk) 14:21, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hands down the primary topic for Gasoline Alley, Alberta is the business park. I'd leave it as is and make Gasoline Alley Business Park a redirect to it. The primary topic assignment can be revisited in future if and when the hamlet receives coverage that rivals the business park. Before then, hopefully Red Deer County will rename the hamlet to make the community more enticing and we can avoid this confusion altogether! Hwy43 (talk) 19:09, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
