Official biography of Gary Farrelly 1983-2077
[edit]Gary Farrelly has an official biography on his website OFFICIAL WEBSITE and also on his GF MYSPACE. It is an account of his art practice and philisophy written by the artist - and it is in no small degree at odds with the information on Tyranius has put in his wikipedia article. Is there any chance descrepencies will be reconsiled.

GARY FARRELLY BIOGRAPHY
Born in 1983, Gary Farrelly is an emerging Irish artist based in Paris, France. One of the founders of the Defastenist movement, Farrelly co-wrote ’The manifesto for an obsessive art’ in 2004 with curators Padraic Moore, Donna O’Donovan and artist David Turpin. Though still very young, Farrelly has already accrued an impressive resume of artistic achievements in several countries.
Between 2002 and 2006, Farrelly studied fine art at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. Apparently disappointed by the lack of commitment and fanaticism evident in fellow students, he began publishing a Xerox art periodical called kunstbahnhoff, in which he illustrated his arguments and aesthetic principals with decorative statistics and explanatory diagrams. Through the dissemination of the Kunstbahnhoff, he came into contact with other obsessive artists: Liam Ryan, Oisin Byrne, Sofie Iremonger and Alex Reilly. In 2003 they founded Defastenism. In 2004 the group was augmented by the curators Padraic.E Moore and Donna O Donovan and the artists David Walter Mac Dermott and David Turpin. Farrelly remains central to the movement which has exhibited in various cities including Dublin, Berlin and New York. Farrelly illustrated various publications for the group including, Unreal City, Europa, Kunstpunkt and Der Schwarze Kanal. Through his activities with the Defastenists, Farrelly quickly gained a reputation for his "paintings and prints that are edgy and gifted" (The Dubliner, April 2005) as well as his personal charisma and highly rhetorical discourse
Gary Farrelly has work in over 100 collections in seven countries. In 2005 he became the youngest ever artist to have work purchased by the Crawford Museum in Cork and Trinity University in Dublin. In 2007 he was again the youngest artist in the Cartography exhibition at the Crawford museum. As of 2007, Farrelly is represented in Paris by Galerie W.
Farrelly has had two solo exhibitions at the time of writing: Saddam International Airport (2006), in which he exhibited a series of drawings of airport terminals built by despots beside a series of fictional airports dedicated cultural icons of personal interest (e.g. Faye Dunaway International Airport and Flugbahnhoff Eva Braun). Obsessive Territories (2007) featured 7 large maps of fictional countries and over 100 ’postcards’ from the imaginary states.
'For Gary Farrelly (1983-2077), ideological and aesthetic compromise is the most difficult aspect of "Real Life". As a consequence, he furnishes a "compensating" art that is a precise physical manifestation of egocentric world view. In and through his practice he develops strategies to implement his will. Habitually working with the flotsam and jetsam of an ultra-consumerist society, Farrelly modifies history, revises geographical boundaries and populated the world with images, concepts and issues that stimulate him most.
Through fastidious and obsessive processes Farrelly produces exquisite art objects, which enable him to simultaneously attain a position of perpetually gratifying contingency. By means of devotional commitment to his work Farrelly expects to eventually construct and inhabit that sought after state of utopia'

The frequently discussed obsessions of the artist include cartography, aviation, espionage, despotism, cryptography, air disasters and public transport amongst others. In effect, Farrelly manages to tell personal stories and share his dogmatic world view via the universally readable treatment of his subject matter. Working at least 10 hours a day, seven days a week in his ’kunstbureau’ – atelier, the artist keeps the ritualistic physical processes of his practice a strictly guarded secret. The artist is scheduled to exhibit in Dublin, Paris and New York in 2008. Ultimately he would like to show a series of Transport nostalgia artworks in an exhibition at Pyongyang international airport, North Korea.
