Disambiguation or redirect needed

[edit]

Right now the most prominent person by the name of Gary Byrne is the former U.S. Secret Service Agent and author of the best selling book Crisis of Character, who apparently does not even have a Wikipedia entry yet. It's time to either bump the Austrialian soccer player, or make this into a Disambiguation page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.55.16.72 (talk) 06:47, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Article on Secret Service agent Gary Byrne needed

[edit]

Before I rewrite the article, please let me know if anyone objects to deleting the content on the soccer player-- and making this into an article on the more notable Gary Byrne, the author of the bombshell bestseller Crisis of Character. JoeM (talk) 18:10, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You'd need to create a disambiguation article for "Gary Byrne" in general and then that would link to the two separate articles.Volunteer Marek (talk) 18:15, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks... How do I do that? Can you assist? JoeM (talk) 18:33, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Presumably, this would become the disambiguation page and then the other two articles would be under something like "Gary Byrne (footballer)" and "Gary Byrne (author)", or whatever the proper description for the guy you want to write about is. I'm not sure what the convention is for soccer players. I'll look into it and probably move the pages accordingly.Volunteer Marek (talk) 18:37, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I created the disambig page Gary Byrne (disambiguation). Start an article at Gary Byrne (author) or whatever you think is the proper description and then add it to the disambig page. Then you can talk to whoever writes articles about Australian soccer players about who is the "most nostable" Byrne.Volunteer Marek (talk) 18:41, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The need for a separate disambiguation page is not clearly established. At this point there is a WP:TWODAB situation that can be addressed with a hatnote. Whether there is a primary topic should be more general WP:RM discussion. olderwiser 22:02, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
