Rename?

[edit]

Per WP:COMMONNAME, shouldn't the article be titled Gargoyle Gecko? "New Caledonian bumpy gecko" is a relatively rare way of referring to this species, from what I can tell. And the article even states it's more commonly known as a "Gargoyle Gecko."  Mbinebri  talk ← 15:23, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Emergence (Nocturnal v crepuscular v cathemeral)

[edit]

Following a general trend I now see is basically on all wikipedia pages about nocturnal gecko species kept in captivity - a person or group of persons has edited these pages to say that the species is crepuscular instead of nocturnal. This has occurred on the leopard gecko page, the african fat tailed gecko page, the crested gecko page, and the leachianus gecko page. In every instance I have uncovered so far, the sources cited on the page say the species is nocturnal, but the editor(s) have changed the page to say the species is crepuscular, leaving the citation stating it is nocturnal in place, so it appears their position has a citation when it does not. Interestingly, species of the same genera that are not kept as pets in captivity appear to all be listed as nocturnal without any interference, so these changes appear to be related to pet keepers. Please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Common_leopard_gecko#Discussion:_Nocturnal_vs._Crepuscular_vs._Cathemeral for a more extensive representative discussion.

In the case of the gargoyle gecko page, there are no contradictory citations, but there are also no citations in support of the assertion this species is crepuscular. IUCN states it is "basically nocturnal" though it may sometimes rest exposed during the day. I have marked the assertion on this page as "citation needed" and mention it here as it appears to be part of a larger systemic problem. If there are reliable sources stating this species is crepuscular, please locate and cite those sources. If there is no comment here I will be changing this page to assert the species is nocturnal as stated by IUCN. Connorlong90 (talk) 19:45, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the article to state this species is nocturnal and added three sources to support said assertion. Connorlong90 (talk) 04:57, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
