Colby, Wisconsin, named for Gardner's son Charles
[edit]According to Roy L. Martin History of the Wisconsin Central (Bulletin No. 54, The Railroad and Locomotive Historical Society, 1941) Colby, Wisconsin, was named for Gardner Colby's son Charles. Martin's book is semi-authoritative. It has some errors, and has no citations, but generally speaking it conforms and is verifiable by other sources. In this case he is likely correct. See page 28 of that book.
