Contested deletion

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (Gardner-White Furniture is a prominent Furniture distributor in Detroit, in the same category of business as Art Van Furniture who is allowed to be shown here on Wikipedia. The company Gardner-White Furniture sells furniture to over 10,000 customers a year and has been partnered with all major local news channels for special charities and donations, as well as Detroit Tigers, Hungry Howies Pizza, Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons. As this article is being developed it should properly be given time and not "Speedily Deleted" as that is offensive to the point of using Wikipedia.) --S.clouthier (talk) 15:58, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

The article did not contain a single assertion of notability. The assertions made above, if verified by reliable sources, might help, but the article is also written like an advertisement. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:01, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
The article is also copied, in large part, from the store's website and press releases. The copyright violations are the key reason I deleted the article. I think it is reasonable to start the article again, basing it on independent reliable sources and writing it in the authors' own words (i.e., not copying the store's content). —C.Fred (talk) 16:04, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Notability

I've invited the author to discuss the issues here. I think we can work on this without any edit wars and come to a consensus regarding notability, even if an AfD is started. From what I can tell, there is at least one source in the article already that can be used for WP:GNG. The other references in the article are either self-published, not independent (sort of the same issue), or from local sources. A Google News search produces three hits. One is already in the article, another appears to be a blog post from the same organization, and the other is from Crain's Detroit Business, which appears to be a PR website. A Google News Archive search pages full of articles and several seems to be from independent and reliable sources, although I haven't checked them. I've asked the author if they have any sources that can be used to establish notability (and explained WP:N, a bit), so I'll wait to dig for articles until they respond. I'm thinking that the company is notable but we just need to do the leg work. I'm just not willing to do that work right now when the NPP needs so much help with the 30+ day backlog of new articles. Above is a list of articles provided by the author. Conservatively, I wouldn't use the PRNewswire, FurnitureToday, EBSCoHost, or Patch.com sources and independent and significant coverage from reliable sources. The Fox Detroit and The Voice article could be considered too local so lets remove those as well. They might be able to be used to establish notability but for the sake of argument, lets say they can't be. That leaves Detroit Free Press Reuters articles that I would consider to be independent and significant coverage from reliable sources. Add those to the Oakland Press, Fox Detroit, and The Voice articles, which I feel are local sources, I feel that there's a strong case for proving notability. I'm going to remove the notability tag. If you feel that the subject is not notable, please start an AfD. As for the COI, we'll need to check the article for issues before that tag is removed. OlYeller21Talktome 20:18, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Warren vs. Auburn Hills?

This is confusing:

Gardner-White Furniture Co., Inc. is a furniture store operating company. Founded in 1912, Gardner White Furniture Co. is based in Warren, Michigan.[1] The company had a single store until 1974 but has since expanded to ten stores and a warehouse in southeastern Michigan.[2] The company is one of the largest to partner with Best Buy[3] and was the first furniture distributor in Michigan to bundle televisions and furniture together.[3] The company has recently moved from Warren to Auburn Hills, Michigan into what was a Ryder warehouse.

The second sentence uses the present tense, "is based in Warren" but then the fifth sentence says that they recently moved from Warren to Auburn Hills. (BTW, what does "recently" mean - A week ago, a year ago, 10 years ago?) Is there a knowledgeable editor who could clean that up a bit? Thanks KConWiki (talk) 04:57, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

I can clear up the confusion for you KConWiki. Main operations moved from Warren, MI (21001 S Groesbeck HWY, Warren MI, 48089) to Auburn Hills, MI (4445 N Atlantic Blvd, Auburn Hills MI 48326) on August 28th, 2012. Some of the online information probably has yet to be updated. Thank you. 74.126.1.54 (talk) 15:30, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
