A stronger article on ganga would refer to the work of ethnomusicologists; the late Mirjana Lausevic is essential, and I suspect that Pettan and Petrovic should be quoted as well. Lausevic's research noted the participation of Orthodox believers as well as Catholics and Muslims in this beautiful tradition; she also observed age-related factors, performance norms, and a custom of singing these very loud dissonances face-to-face.
