From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I recall that during the 1950s Galle Face Green was a wonderful place for a child. There were donkey rides, surprisingly high-altitude paper kites and all kinds and sorts of entertainment. Some people used to venture to the beach on the other side and wash their feet - only - in the surf of the Indian Ocean. It was a meeting place for lovers and all sorts of local sports and artistic performers made their presentations to the Great Sri Lankan public.
