  • Starting with review. Will myself do minor copyediting while reading through. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 08:34, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Image used is free and good to use with proper license.
  • I have created a category on Commons for him. Please add that link at the end.
I added it now. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 06:29, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • No disamig links found.
  • All external links are working fine.
  • Bullets in Community service section is not a good idea. Make paragraphs of those.
  • Is Thera a title or honorific? In my copyedits i changed the full name of his to Thera on some instances and later realized this. So what single name should be used to refer him throughout the article? Gnanissara?
  • Hello Dharmadhyaksha, thanks for your time. Following are my comments,
  • Image: Yup. I clicked this picture personally during my last trip to Colombo.
  • Category on Commons: Thanks. I noticed that this file is already added to the category.
  • Disamig links: No comments.
  • External links: No comments.
  • Bullets in Community service: Done.
  • Thera a title or honorific?: Thera (masculin), therī (feminine) are honorific terms for bhikkhus and bhikkhunis and is treated as part of their name. Galboda is the name of the village he was born in (which has also become part of his name). His full name hence is "Galboda Gnanissara Thera".
Let me know if something else is needed. Thanks, Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 07:48, 28 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Dharmadhyaksha, AKS.9955, where does this stand now? It's been 19 days since the last post here or to the article. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:02, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for delayed responses. Continuing ahead; I have striked off points that have been resolved. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 05:26, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • So with which single name should he be referred throughout the article?
  • Reply: In every section, I have made sure to use his full name "Galboda Gnanissara Thera".
So that's what is the problem. Check MOS:LASTNAME and resolve it. Consult Wikipedia:WikiProject Buddhism or other maybe to check what last name should be used throughout the article. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 06:29, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Footer templates should go at the end of the article.
  • Reply: Done.
  • Red link to Colombo portal should be fixed or removed.
  • Reply: Done.
Portals also moved down. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 06:29, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • See also section has a temple which is linked in the article and two more entries whose connection is not clear. See WP:SEEALSO and fix accordingly.
  • Reply: He is the head of "Gangaramaya Temple" which also manages "Seema Malaka". "Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Thera" was a bikku (similar to this subject) who was one of the pioneers of Sri Lankan Buddhist revivalist movement in the 19th century. No direct relation and hence name mentioned under see also for further read.
Okay so fix that section by providing brief annotation of links that are not already well-covered in prose above. If already covered in the article then they should not be present here. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 06:29, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reply: Corrected.
So is he not one of the National Heroes of Sri Lanka? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 06:29, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also check other OVERCATs.
  • Reply: Done.
You have removed categories related to Theravada Buddhism. Is he not one? If not, which school does he follow? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 06:29, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • See WP:OVERLINK; major geographic features should not be blue-linked.
  • Reply: Removed few.
  • Also, repeatedly linking same thing is not needed; especially in such a small article and two just few sentences apart.
  • Reply: Removed wikilinks.
Was not done. Done now. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 06:29, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Orphanage: In Kataragama and in Kotte Galboda Gnanissara Thera started orphanages." Make this a sentence.
  • Reply: It is already a sentence :-)
Was not done. Done now. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 06:29, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Major: Ref 4 is not working which has been heavily used.
  • Reply: Damn. Let me deal with this tomorrow.

More to come... §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 05:26, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Dharmadhyaksha, I failed to take a note of your further questions on 26 Aug since you did not tag / ping me. Anyway, following are my replies against points raised.
  • Length: GA does not specify minimum length of any article and hence this is not an issue.
  • Teachings: Nothing available on English web; atleast none that I could find and that's why no mention.
  • Time-frame reference: Unfortunately, I cannot find time-frames on web. For example, he renouncing the position of Sanghanayaka of the Sri Lankan Buddhist temples in the United States.
  • Coverage: All aspects of Thera has been covered. Further Google search throws out generic press reports or repetition of what we have read here. There is further material but the sources are unreliable and hence I have not included them.
As BlueMoonset said, lets take a call on this and close it one way or the other since it has been pending for sometime now. Thanks for your time. Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 15:43, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry for nothing pinging before @AKS.9955:. I am not comfortable in passing this article as GA. Un-struck points remain open and the article lacks broad coverage. Not being able to find information online is not an excuse to change our quality levels. These should be basic things expected in a biography of a Buddhist priest. If you wish we can put it for second opinion and see what others thinks. If @BlueMoonset: thinks it feasible they can also give their opinion. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 11:27, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dharmadhyaksha, AKS.9955, I've just taken a look at the article, and I agree that the article lacks not only the broad coverage that one would expect, but also basic details as noted above—not describing his teachings and not knowing his tenure as Sanghanayaka in the United States are both serious deficiencies, and not the only ones. It does happen that some topics or people just don't have enough information available to become Good Articles, and remain solid B-class or C-class articles. This is one of those; frankly, I think it's C-class at the moment. The article could use a good copyedit—there is a fair amount of repetition of phrasing and also some grammatical and sentence structure issues—and I think it also needs to decide how to refer to the subject. The intro starts with "Galboda Gnanissara Thera" and then switches to "Thera"; the body of the article only uses the full name. I do wonder whether "Thera" is appropriate, since as best I can tell it isn't a surname but a title or honorific, but I have no idea of what standard usage might be for a prelate of his distinction, unless the use of "Vaccissara Thera" for his predecessor is appropriate, in which case perhaps "Gnanissara Thera" is the way to go. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:18, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello Dharmadhyaksha & BlueMoonset, although I don't agree with some points raised by you, I agree with the larger picture and issue. I agree with you two that owing to other issues, this article is not yet ready for GA status. I hence would like to withdraw the nomination and will nominate it when all issues raised by you two are addressed. Sorry for the long pause, but I have not been editing regularly on Wikipedia (except uploading pictures) much these days. Let me know how to close this. Thanks for your time and patience. Cheers, Arun Kumar SINGH (Talk) 16:09, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Query

[edit]

Dharmadhyaksha, AKS.9955, what is the state of this review? As far as I can see, it's been over three weeks since the most recent post here, and no work has been done on the article since that post. It may be time to think of closing the review. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:21, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
