I have to make an addition. In 1985 i had to write a paper on Gabriel Monod. One important thing is lacking here: Gabriel Monod was the expert to prove that the "bordereau"(the presumed hand written letter by Dreyfus that sent him to Devil's Island) was undoubtedly a falsification. Monod was asked for this task because he was the best expert on medieval hand written manuscripts. It took a lot of courage for Monod to go against public opinion. On the basis of his verdict, Dreyfus was the first and for a long time the only man to leave Devil's island alive. The second was Papillon. Another funny addition may be that on his wedding his friend Nietzsche composed a "Monodie à deux," a piano piece for two, still available in music libraries. Dr.hist.
