- Establishment ==
As compared to the sanctioned intake in degree-level courses of engineering in metropolitan cities, Delhi had the lowest intake among Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata. Therefore, the need for further growth of educational facilities in engineering and technology at the degree level was felt.
The college was inaugurated by Smt. Sheila Dikshit in August 2007. Smt. Dikshit said, "Setting up of the Govind Ballabh Pant Engineering College in the campus of the Govind Ballabh Pant Polytechnic Institute in the year 2007, is a part of this endeavor of the Government of Delhi".
- Campus ==
The college covers an area of around 2 acres in Okhla Industrial Estate - III, Delhi, India on the sidelines of Aravali Hills, adjoining the Govind Ballabh Pant Polytechnic Institute and Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology near Kalkaji Temple on Maa Anandamayi Marg, Kalkaji, Okhla, Delhi. It shares its boundaries with the Govind Ballabh Pant Polytechnic Institute and IIIT Delhi.
The college started offering Bachelor of Technology programs in the disciplines of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE); Mechanical & Automation Engineering (MAE) in 2007; and from the academic year 2010-11, Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) with an intake of 60 each. The institute, since its inception, has made rapid strides by way of developing excellent and world class laboratories.
- Land Controversy ===
At the time of establishment, in 2007, 60 acres of land was granted to the college by Delhi government. One year later, the college was instructed to share the land with IIIT Delhi; an autonomous state institute which was previously operating in the campus of NSIT, Delhi. In nine years, IIIT Delhi spread itself over an area of 25 acres with all the resources, including acoustic lecture halls, basketball courts, tennis courts, football field and hostels. Meanwhile, G. B. Pant Engineering College kept functioning from the abandoned dormitory building of G.B Pant Polytechnic, covering barely 2.48 acres.
In 2017, the land dispute grew further when IIIT Delhi refused share its campus with their old neighboring college. Students and alumni of GBPEC launched a peaceful protest[1] to get the attention of Delhi government on the issue. As of March 2017, no decisive action is taken by Delhi government.
- Admission ==
The admission towards a full-time Bachelor of Technology degree in the college is through the national level Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the university. 85% of the total seats in the college are reserved for students from the Delhi Region (candidates passing the qualifying exam from the recognized Board / College / Institution located within the National Capital Territory of Delhi) and 15% of the total seats for candidates belonging to outside Delhi Region (candidates passing the qualifying exam from the recognized Board / College / Institution located outside the National Capital Territory of Delhi).
To appear in the CET, candidates need to buy the Engineering and Architecture Admission Brochure along with Application Form of the university and submit the Application Form at the university counter by hand or by post or online. The Admission Brochure is available in the month of February–March.
- Library ==
Library at the college is privileged to support the college’s march towards its vision to “ignite the passion of students for new ideas and innovations in engineering and technology”.
Fully automated domain specific library spread over a large area with an excellent collection of Books, Magazines, Journals etc. It is fully air-conditioned along with no Wi-Fi facility.
- 17,000 titles of books
- 50 Magazine Subscriptions
- 13 newspapers (Hindi & English)
- 5000 e-Journals
- DELNET Membership
- Demonstration of DELNET in college
- Departments ==
- Computer Science and Engineering
- Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Mechanical and Automation Engineering
- Administration ==
The Principal is the head of the college.
The current Principal is Prof.(Dr.)O P Verma; former Head of Department, Computer Science & Engineering, Delhi Technological University (formerly Delhi College of Engineering).
- Advanced Microwave Engineering Lab ==
The college has developed an advanced Laboratory for the research purpose in the field of Microwave Engineering in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. This is a unique testing facility for testing antennas. This laboratory has a tremendous potential for providing specialized and unique services in the area of consultancy and design, calibration & testing of Antenna, far-field near-field testing and Training, Research & Development and Certification etc. for the Industry/Defense Organizations & Space Organizations. This testing facility for microwave antennas and systems can be classified into outdoor and indoor test ranges. Due to the weather limitations and other demerits like EMI/EMC problems, ground effects etc. indoor ranges have become very popular over last few decades. The indoor test range can be divided into far field and near field range. This facility is designed for carrying out Near field and far field measurements. This laboratory also provide Radar Cross Section Measurements (Both Mono-static and Bi-static ) of standard targets and assorted complex shapes and models of warship/tanks/aircraft can be carried out in this chamber. This lab can also be used for RF-ID antennas and applicators evaluation. The design and selection of absorbers make this facility suitable/extendable for Near Field and EMI/EMC measurements, making it a unique/only facility of its type with any of Technical Institution including IITs.
- Training And Placement Cell ==
The T&P Department facilitated summer internships and placement assistance to all streams and coveted names such as Maruti Suzuki, AFCONS, Mahindra & Mahindra, Siemens, Yamaha etc. were prevailing recruiters for the college's flagship batch and subsequent batches until 2013. Beyond that, the college, in absence of a competent T&P department has been inconsistent in providing active support in placing students in industries for summer internships and final placements.
- College Societies ==
The college has a technical society "INGENIUM" and a student chapter of SAE INDIA (Society of automotive Engineers India) and student branch of IEEE(Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers).
- Festivals and other activities ==
Skasolit was the first version of the Annual Cultural Festival of the college.Later it was changed to Ambrosia and now it has merged with annual technical fest INCEPTUM. INCEPTUM hosts a wide range of events like robotics,coding,quizzes, debates, presentation,cultural events etc. Fantasia is the annual literature festival and Fortius is the annual sports festival.

Affiliation to University
[edit]Recently students after first lockdown in Delhi protested against the non inclusion of GBPEC in IPU counselling list admissions 2020. Students went on hunger strike outside of Vikas Bhawan, near CMO Delhi Government. Around and about that time TOI reported Delhi Govt. is making a Skills and Entrepreneurship University to which they will affiliate or include this college. GBPEC along with DITE as per TOI article were to be included in that university. But DITE had taken admissions in 2020 whereas no admissions in GBPEC. Downjeans641 (talk) 09:01, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
