Does Alice make the attribution error?

"As a simple example of the behavior which attribution error theory seeks to explain, consider the situation where Alice, a driver, is cut off in traffic by Bob. Alice attributes Bob's behavior to his fundamental personality, e.g., he thinks only of himself, he is selfish, he is a jerk, he is an unskilled driver; she does not think it is situational, e.g., he is going to miss his flight, his wife is giving birth at the hospital, his daughter is convulsing at school. Alice might well make the opposite mistake and excuse herself by saying she was influenced by situational causes, e.g., I am late for my job interview, I must pick up my son for his dental appointment, rather than thinking she has a character flaw, e.g., I am such a jerk, I treat others in contempt, I am bad at driving."

I rewrote this to note that Alice makes the opposite error of Bob.; the previous version said she made the same error. Her error is indeed opposite to his in one sense, but are they still both called the fundamental attribution error, or does hers have a different name? --editeur24 (talk) 22:12, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Question regarding translation

My understanding is that "fundamental attribution error" is an "error of [an unwarranted] fundamental attribution", and not a "fundamental error of attribution". But I've seen many translations to portuguese conveying the latter sense, which to me just sound like they didn't even understand the concept. The same weird translation appears in the Hebrew Wikipedia. My interpretation is like yours, that it should be "The error of fundamental attribution". Can someone with relevant expertise verify? Laugh Tough (talk) 13:04, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Apparently the French Wikipedia is also pondering about the translation. The page title is w:fr:Erreur fondamentale d'attribution but the content calls it L'erreur d'attribution fondamentale. See w:fr:Discussion:Erreur_fondamentale_d'attribution... Laugh Tough (talk) 13:24, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
