Removed
[edit]For the moment I've removed this bit: However, some Christians believe that, by emphasizing God's transcendent nature at the expense of his immanence, the song is grounded in heresy. I don't have a problem with this being in there, but I'm having trouble finding a source to support it.
I'd also like to see some info on how Bette Midler's recording became something of a theme song for the Gulf War.
Some mainstream chart info would be good as well. --MrFizyx 16:27, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
"Ironic" twist?
[edit]A while back I inserted some bit of text here about the songs popularity duing the Persian Gulf War referring to this as somewhat "ironic". It recently occured to me that I should find better support for the use of this word. I found this statement in an article on Warren Zevon:
Similarly, on a recent tour, he performed a cover of the song "From A Distance" -- best known as a hit for Bette Midler -- which he considered to be a "fabulously ironic" song, but which was greeted with disdain when he sang it. [1]
I also found a blog entry, "Bette Midler's "From a Distance"-- What does it mean?" quoting my own words back to me. Weird. -MrFizyx 21:02, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- In any case there is a real need to find sources for the interpretation section. Currently it presents only a variety of viewpoints, all of which constitute original research. -MrFizyx 21:17, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Mankita Dogs.jpg
[edit]Image:Mankita Dogs.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Apart from the fact that also Sloan composed and sang a song "From the distance" (which is entirely different) around 1965 - is he really related to the productions mentioned? --Kuhni74 (talk) 20:14, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
The song by Midler did not win a Grammy
[edit]In the Bette Midler section of "From a Distance" it says "The song went on to win a Grammy for Song of the Year in 1991". That is incorrect & needs to be corrected. At the 33rd Annual Grammy Awards in 1991 the song was nominated for two Grammy's. One for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female & another for Record of the Year. It did not win either of them. Here is the source from the Grammy's Webpage: https://www.grammy.com/artists/bette-midler/17096 CLOaker2 (talk) 06:25, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
