Similarities with Stargate
[edit]Fringeworthy was a role-playing game that we considered playing a long time ago, well before Stargate, so I know that it has precedence. But regarding the following text in the article:
- Two aspects of the game -- circular Gateways to alternate universes roughly ten meters in diameter, and a pseudo-military force set with the task of exploring these other universes -- gives the Stargate and Stargate SG-1 series of movies and TV shows a strong resemblance to Fringeworthy. As Fringeworthy predates the Stargate franchise, and no recognition is given to Fringeworthy, this means the Stargate series may be a violation of Richard Tucholka's intellectual property rights.
I know that this is qualified with may (weasel word), but it smells of personal research. Val42 04:38, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- I originally speculated about this on my webpage. Richard Tucholka saw it and wrote to me; he was, as of Jan 31 2004, suing the creators of Stargate over this. (Source: personal e-mail.) I don't know the result of that case, thus the word "may". Jiawen 00:47, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- This would be a good citation to add to the article then. Val42 04:47, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- How do I cite personal e-mail, and describe the situation without self-linking? Jiawen 10:32, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- I removed the whole section. It is original research, unverifiable, uncited and horribly point of view. Without a citation to a reliable source (that website you mentioned would not work) it should not be added back in. Sorry. Konman72 00:33, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- So, we need to find a reputable source to use as a citation source, but ones like Scifipedia or Yahoo movies are not reputable enough? I read through the guidelines and I'm wondering what would constitute a reputable source? Kedamono 02:01, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- Scifipedia is user edited just like Wikipedia, in fact it no longer reports what you want it to. I don't recall a yahoo movies citation, but I do remember imdb and ebay cites that led to pages about the movie, neither of which even mentioned Fringeworthy at all. Any news article from a reputable website would work, or...well, since so far you haven't provided almost any citation and I can't find any on google, why don't you see what you can find and we'll discuss it then. Or just read the link I have provided in about every edit summary I have made, WP:RS. Konman72 02:28, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Lawsuit was never filed
[edit]I undid the change to the section on Stargate as it was about an unrelated lawsuit that was brought against the creators of Stargate. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by John Reiher (talk • contribs) 05:12, 13 February 2007 (UTC).
- You should also remove it from Stargate and the article on the creater of Fringeworthy. Val42 06:05, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
First Alternate History RPG
[edit]Well, this will be a difficult one to find an official citation for, especially one that meets Wikipedia guidelines, but I'll try. I'll have to dig through some Dragon magazines to find where that statement was made. It was published 8 years after Dungeons & Dragons, and in that time there was dearth of SciFi RPGs. But as far as I know, it was first. But knowing and proving is two different things.Kedamono 02:25, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- Any luck with finding such a source/reference? I've added a {{fact}} tag to this statement (and others) which I believe the game's author has removed (in contravention of WP:COI I think, and clearly conflicting with verifiability). I have subsequently reinserted it as it's still unsourced. I'll continue to keep an eye out now. Thanks. --Craw-daddy | T | 21:14, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- I don't have the book so I may be wrong, but the information currently in the article suggests that the game's timeline starts in 2013. This doesn't really make it seem like an alternate history game —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.81.221.243 (talk) 19:18, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- No, no luck so far finding that citation. Unfortunately, the only person who would definitely have it is Richard Tucholka, and he's recovering from a medical condition right now. I'll try to find out from him if he remembers who said that. As for it being about Alternate Worlds, the entire premise is that your characters get to travel to alternate and parallel worlds using alien technology. Just because it's set in 2013 doesn't invalidate that premise. Kedamono (talk) 06:26, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
New edition?
[edit]In 2008 a pair of new editions (d20 and Generic) will be released.
I see nothing about this on the homepage. Where did this info come from? FurrySaint (talk) 20:49, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
That's been updated on the homepage. If you visit the site now, you'll see that the d20 version of Fringeworthy is now available. Kedamono (talk) 06:22, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
