First Airport?
[edit]"If you consider the Zeppelin as an aircraft, this airport is the first in the world."
I removed this statement as there was no supporting argument for this statement. While it would be cool if that was fact, I was not able to find any supporting arguments. All I found were are arguments against this statement:
- The German Wikipedia entry does not have the above argument. Instead it simply states that in 1913 the area of the airport was designated for training of Zeppelin staff and that in 1915 the first building to house Zeppelins was build.
- The airport entry in Wikipedia states that, although disputed, it is generally agreed that College Park Airport in Maryland, US, established in 1909 is the world's oldest continually operating airfield.
- According to the list of airports in the German Wikipedia entry the Hamburg airport was established in 1911.
- Lufthansa started its first scheduled flights on April 6th, 1926 that connected the airports in Berlin, Halle, Erfurt, Stuttgart, and Zurich (from history of Lufthansa in the German Wikipedia). Lufthansa did not serve Friedrichshafen until 1929 (from the German Wikipedia entry). Therefore it can not be the first passenger airport either.

Airport webcams
[edit]A few days ago I added a subparagraph titled Webcams under Facilities. I described what the airport's webcam shows and referred to a second webcam. I provided links. Another contributor, identifiable only from an IP address deleted my post with the remarks that it was "absolutely irrelevant" and not "allowed content" under WP:AIRPORTS, to which he referred me. The other contributor had made several contributions about European Airport websites that day, including undoing several revisions by others. In the event I've now re-instated my original contribution and would appreciate any views one way or the other.
I've looked at WP:AIRPORTS and can see the guidance on the sorts of technical details of the aircraft industry that are preferred. My post is not about technical airport/aircraft issues. I note that the guidance is advisory and that WP encourages "boldness" in contributions.
Friedrichshafen Airport seems to me to be more that just a location for the application of permitted and correct technical details. It is a photogenic and attractive location, which the webcams show. It is a place where people live, work and fly, which the webcams also show. It is also a place where the landing lights are sometimes turned off (when nothing is due) and where real people can be seen waiting for and boarding trains at the local station. And in the summer, Zeppelins can be seen tethered to their moorings, gently swaying in the wind.
For these reasons I think a link to local webcams is worthwhile and relevant to an appreciation of the life of the airport. I also think it's OK by the generality of WP guidelines.
I'd be interested to read what others think.

A month later, my short parapraph on webcams at the airport has been deleted again. I've re-instated it and invited the person concerned to explain their reasons here. I have asked too for quotations from guidance. I look forward to what may be said. I prefer a conversation about the issue, rather than arbitrary deletion. ArbieP (talk) 14:22, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
