Wilson a character?

[edit]

Wilson is currently absent from the article. It's different to know whether to mention him as being with Jim or whether to list him as a seperate character.

For now, I'm going to mention the existence of Wilson in Jim's description. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.240.245.53 (talk) 13:11, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What about the gran?

[edit]

Surely the actress that plays the Gran (maternal grandma) should be in list of roles before the neighbour's dog. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.104.19.92 (talk) 09:58, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Episode list

[edit]

The episode list section should be reformatted to use the {{episode list}} template. Andyross (talk) 15:53, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish?

[edit]

In what sense is it a "Jewish" family? I watched an episode and noticed no reference to Jewish religion or culture. --217.149.169.213 (talk) 23:17, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's important in Jewish culture that a family have dinner together on Friday evening, which is what this sitcom is centred on. The Goodmans mention in many episodes that they're Jewish. There's often a challah on the dinner table. Jim Michael (talk) 09:26, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The premise is that a Jewish family has a formal friday night dinner to usher in the sabbath. Unfortunately, and bizarrely, none of the main cast is actually Jewish. Even Tom Rosenthal is only Jewish on his fathers side, so not technically (halachically) a Jew. The only actual Jews are Tracy Ann Oberman and Harry Landis who have minor roles. This is really not good enough.

This is a fictional tv show. They are playing roles. Do you expect actual nazis to be hired for films centered around white supremacy? Should all sports films use actual athletes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.153.111.229 (talk) 13:25, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Character descriptions

[edit]

I understand character descriptions, but the current descriptions seem to be weirdly written in a childish fan-ish sort of way. Surely they don't need to be so extensive? And the "mum loves MasterChef" thing. MasterChef has only been mentioned in one episode. If you're gonna do that, why not list every single thing she's ever shown an interest in? Also talking about Horrible Grandma dying here is a bit meaningless and spoilery isn't it? TheMysteriousEditor (talk) 09:28, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's getting too excessive. I'm creating a List of Friday Night Dinner characters page. TheMysteriousEditor (talk) 20:20, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Characters page

[edit]

A list of characters page exists at Draft:List of Friday Night Dinner characters. All I've done is transferred the massive text wall that was clogging up this page. If anybody actually cares, they can go and edit it. But at least it's finally separate from this main page. TheMysteriousEditor (talk) 18:45, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Its submission was rejected due to being unsourced. Jim Michael (talk) 19:00, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Series 7

[edit]

According to Robert Popper, he has planned not to end the show but the organisers are not making a seventh series for the time being due to lockdown and restrictions caused by COVID-19 or Coronavirus. I do not doubt that they are making a new series because I have spoken to Channel 4 about it. I am a massive fan of the show as well. Martin Ferguson, a Channel 4 employee told me my comments regarding the show have been logged for the production company so they know about the enquiry regarding the seventh series. KirkburnFandom (talk) 21:06, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I know that but Paul Ritter would have wanted the series to continue on, even if he has died. Channel 4 said that there is no information about the series ending, because even though Paul Ritter is dead, he would have wanted the series to continue. Best, DarkShadowDude 💬 21:21, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You’re perfectly entitled to that opinion, but like I told you last time, Channel 4 has said no information has been released confirming an ending. Per WP:DENY, I will no longer be discussing with you. Best, DarkShadowDude 💬 16:51, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

They are correct because the source and information you provided is unreliable. It is plainly not true. DarkShadowDude 💬 16:58, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I know I am not the sole editor of this series, and I have the right to protect Wikipedia against vandalism and personal attacks from you, but I have also not failed at reporting you for your actions. I am telling the truth, but you are falsifying evidence, name calling and resorting to personal attacks. Please read WP:NOTTHEM. DarkShadowDude 💬 17:05, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

And I am not belligerent by any standards. Your argument contradicts itself because you have no evidence, but the evidence you have provided came from a source that was unreliable. Resorting to personal attacks and tampering with reports will not help your case. DarkShadowDude 💬 17:09, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You called me a geezer, which by all standards I’m not either. DarkShadowDude 💬 17:11, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

One more note, your edits are not vandalism but personal attacks are more problematic. Have a good day and sorry for the inconvenience. DarkShadowDude 💬 17:12, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Totally unacceptable. DarkShadowDude 💬 17:55, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's highly unlikely that the show will return for any new series given the recent passing of Paul Ritter and the significance of the role he played in Friday Night Dinner. Just for clarification regarding the 'Original release' section in the Infobox, as per the guidance on Infobox Television, the last_aired parameter should be changed from 'Present' to the date the last episode aired 12 months after the most recent episode aired, unless there is significant and cited evidence confirming that the show has been renewed for a future series. This means that from 1 May 2021, the Infobox can be updated to say that the show last aired on 1 May 2020. Here is the extract from Infobox Television: ″If such a program has not aired a new episode in 12 months, "present" can be changed to the date the last episode aired. This does not imply the series has been cancelled, rather that the program "last aired" on that date. This is to prevent programs from being listed as "present" in perpetuity.Commyguy (talk) 20:03, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Commyguy: Ok, those guys who edited the article obviously didn’t know about what you were trying to tell them about. CoolGuyRonnie (talk) 05:55, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Morris: Guest or recurring?

[edit]

In order to try and resolve the ongoing revert/edit cycle, I've moved Mr Morris to the guest section as three appearances in 3 out of 30 episodes seems difficult to justify. As ever, to seek consensus, anyone feeling strongly that he should be listed as recurring, could they please provide some justification here rather than just revert. Thanks. Juvenile, Petty, Vindictive

[edit]

I posted the following comment here a couple of days ago, but it seems to have disappeared:

I've started watching this TV series, and it seems to me that it portrays Jews as juvenile, petty and vindictive - basically psychopathic. I don't know if that is what Jews are typically like in reality, but if so then they won't like being portrayed like that in a comedy series on TV, so I do hope nothing bad happens to any of the actors.

The article mentions Adam and Jonny pranking each other but doesn't mention anything about the series portraying Jews as juvenile, petty and vindictive / psychopathic, although this has been observed by others before now, eg.

Do you think the article should reference the behaviour of Jews as portrayed by the series? Il Gobbo di Venerdi (talk) 12:58, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jim and Wilson

[edit]

Sharing what happens to Wilson in Jim's brief character description is a fairly significant spoiler to the show. Why is it here? I've had friends have this surprise moment ruined for them because they came to this page. 2A02:C7C:7CA0:F300:499F:F368:6BCD:B9E2 (talk) 11:08, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
