Archive talk page?
I feel that it would be useful to set up automatic archiving of this page, which is getting quite long and goes back 10-11 years. Does anyone else have a view on this, please? DBaK (talk) 08:39, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
- I agree. How does one go about establishing such a thing?—Jerome Kohl (talk) 15:56, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you. Well, assuming that no-one is unhappy with it (hoho, this is Wikipedia, get real sonny) then after a decent interval - say, a week - I could have a go at setting it up. I have both done it myself with only moderate screaming and crying, and, perhaps more usefully, have watched proper grown-ups doing it, so I would be happy to try. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 16:42, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
- Unhappy editors will be encouraged to sit in a comfy chair until they cheer up. Page seems ripe for archiving. Just plain Bill (talk) 17:13, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the responses. Well, I have had a go. Traditionally there may then follow some or all of these:
- Turns out I messed it up and have to redo it 94 times. It's a learning thing.
- Nine outraged editors emerge to express their deep unhappiness at the archiving. We have a big row, followed by tea and cake.
- It sort-of works (though not at once - the documentation warns of likely delays), but I have to do some sorting out by hand of initial anomalies during the first runs; these are sometimes but not always caused by strangenesses in the date format in ancient threads, and it is usually faster to just fix them with C&P by "hand" than to try to massage them into a righteous glow and wait for the bot to pick them up, which is just annoying.
- I go back to sleep for another year or two.
Hope this helps, or will have helped, or willen haven ongehelppt, depending upon when you are reading this. Best to all, DBaK (talk) 09:51, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- Please see progress note at the (current) top of this page. DBaK (talk) 17:10, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
- Update: the bot that I tried to use is not running at the moment. I have tried to change it to the other option. DBaK (talk) 21:53, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
Sound Production
To make the description of sound production more succinct and less Spanish Inquisitiony, I have replaced
To produce different notes on the horn, one must do many things—the seven most important are pressing the valves, holding the appropriate amount of lip tension, raising the soft palate, positioning the tongue, lowering the larynx, blowing air into the instrument, and placing the hand in the bell.
with
Sound is produced by vibrating ("buzzing") the player's lips into the mouthpiece of the instrument. Different partials in the harmonic series can be played by adjusting the air pressure and lip tension, while different harmonic series can be accessed by pressing the valves. The player can also adjust the pitch of the instrument through the position of their hand in the bell. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.11.117.130 (talk • contribs) 08:50, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- It works for me, thanks. I'm sorry you removed the Spanish Inquisition bit above, though <g>. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 09:37, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- I've added that reference back in then. :P — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.11.117.130 (talk • contribs) 16:03, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
- Phew! Thanks, I've missed it! Cheers DBaK (talk) 20:04, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
