Will somebody of the Freedom Party please tell us what you stand for?
- I am not a member of the Freedom Party, but you can learn more about it by reading Wikipedia's article on the Freedom Party of Ontario. There is also a link from that page to the party's home page. Ground Zero | t 23:57, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I was a member of the Freedom Party of Ontario until 1995 when I left Canada. However, I remain in contact with the party executive to this day and follow the party closely, even having made some financial contributions to it over the years and having taken part in some of its media activities, namely the Just Right radio programme that is on FM radio in the city of London.
Freedom Party holds that every individual in the peaceful pursuit of personal fulfilment has an absolute right to his own life, liberty and property, and that the purpose of government is to protect individual freedom of choice - not to restrict it.
Superficially, a glance at Freedom Party platform suggests a "live-and-let-live" approach to human society, but to put it more precisely, the principle is as follows: No individual has the right to initiate the use of force or fraud against any other individual. An individual may only use force against another in self-defence. Furthermore, the government, as an agent of the individual may use force only in retaliation against those who have wrongfully initiated its use.
Without being too critical of this particular article, I can understand why readers may be confused about what the party stands for given the rather gossipy chat about the personal histories and lives of those who may have run as candidates for Freedom Party in the past. As to what influence Freedom Party has had in Ontario, while not ever being elected, they have been successful in getting their agenda through in a number of ways. For instance, if you live in Ontario and you ever go shopping on a Sunday, you have Freedom Party and only Freedom Party to thank for that.83.255.74.38 (talk) 15:41, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
