Proposed revisions
[edit]In reviewing some of the sources used here and in the article on the Institute of Pacific Relations I found a number of statements which are misleading or in some cases wrong. Since the tone of both articles is hostile, I think that we need to be careful to avoid appearing biased.
In the first paragraph, for instance: Field said that he was never a member of the CPUSA as such, but "I suppose I was what the Party called a 'member at large.'" Field From Right to Left p. 169.
Likewise, the source in note 7 for "thoroughgoing Communist" is a review of Field's book, but the book itself should be used -- Field is quite open about his beliefs and activities. John Thomas, Institute of Pacific Relations (Seattle: University of Washington Press, 1974), after examining the Congressional testimony, comes to different conclusions about specific episodes mentioned in the article, while still holding Field responsible for ignoring Stalin's crimes until Krushchev's 1956 speech (Field in his book says that he "uncritically accepted" Stalin's word).
If anyone else is working on this article, I would be glad to post more instances, but I will hold off making any changes for a while. ch (talk) 05:16, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
