Born

[edit]

I see no valid reason for deleting "He was born on July 25, 1874 in Garrison, New York". --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 15:03, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In my experience, you see no reason in anything. Sorry, Mr. Norton, but after our previous encounters, I refuse to debate with you, until you read, and comply with, the Wikipedia guidelines. Kraxler (talk) 14:00, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please be polite and assume good faith. Please don't tell people to go read the Bible to find the reason for something, cite a chapter and verse. If you think that the date and place of birth does not belong in a biography based on a Wikipedia rule, please cite that rule, otherwise you are just imposing your personal taste into the argument. You keep telling me to read the Wikipedia guidelines, but you never actually cite a rule that you are following. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 01:01, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Last time I quoted guidelines, you appeared not to understand a word of it. Just read my edit summaries at my changes. I have to spend a lot time of time already in cleaning up your shit-trail, so don't expect me to lose time teaching you guidelines, especially considering that you don't check the basic facts of what you add, like making people members of an association which was founded decades after their death, and linking to wrong persons. I hope some admin or other higher authority gets aware of your damaging Wikipedia. Kraxler (talk) 12:26, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, assume good faith and be polite. We can have disagreements over style, but you can't impose your personal style and claim it is the Wikipedia style without offering a quote from a guideline. Finding links within articles needs to be done, you are just performing kneejerk reversals without trying to fix things. If you think articles should not start with a person's birth, start a thread at the Manual of Style and lobby to make that a rule. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 13:31, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not remove the quote parameter from citations. If you feel Wikipedia should not have them, try to develop a consensus for Wikipedia to exclude them, and they can be removed from every citation. If you can get consensus for removal, I will gladly remove them myself. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 01:10, 15 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Don't be daft, Mr. Norton. There is not only consensus, it is mandatory to delete copyrighted material. See at the top of the editing window. Everything that was published in the US after 1923, is copyrighted, and be quoted from only with permission. Permission is not granted if the material is subject to sale, or in this case, a subscription. Kraxler (talk) 13:00, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Non-free content says: "Brief quotations of copyrighted text may be used to illustrate a point, establish context, or attribute a point of view or idea. In all cases, a citation is required. Copyrighted text that is used verbatim must be attributed with quotation marks or other standard notation, such as block quotes." The quote parameter is in the citation template to be used. If you want to lobby for the removal of quotes from citations start a thread and develop consensus. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 13:22, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Political Graveyard

[edit]

Please do not remove PG references. It is used as a reliable source in over 5,000 articles. If you think it is unreliable, please develop consensus on the Political Graveyard talk page. If the consensus is that it is unreliable, I will remove the reference myself from this article. The ad hoc removal from articles that you are editing is not helpful. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 03:29, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
