Lewis gun's "buttstock"

[edit]

What Libby calls the "buttstock" (the rifle-style shoulder stock) of the Lewis gun was an integral part of the standard infantry weapon of which the "aircraft" Lewis was a stripped down version. Libby's memory (very long after the event) that he actually designed a stock for the Lewis, rather than having the readily available standard spare part refitted, is one of the very few lapses in his generally very accurate memoirs. He can well be excused this one, but there is no need for us to repeat it here. -Soundofmusicals (talk) 08:43, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I expect you're right, but a reference is needed: OR and all that. Sentence deleted pending. Raspw (talk) 04:48, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
