Citation style change
[edit]I noticed a user changed the style in which citations are displayed in the Fred Ascani article. The original article used the style mentioned in WP:CITESHORT and consisted of "Notes" (footnotes in 2 columns) and "References" (list of books). The user changed "Notes" to "References" (same footnotes but in 1 column) and changed "References" to "Further reading" (with the same books). Is the new style preferred for this type of article? I checked one of the featured biographies, William IV of the United Kingdom, and it uses the same Notes/References sections that is mentioned in WP:CITESHORT. I'm not devoted to one style or another, but I was curious if this change was just an arbitrary choice or a recommended style? Thanks, Skeet Shooter (talk) 03:08, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Fred J. vs Fred John
[edit]User:Clare ascani wrote that Ascani changed his name from Alfredo to "Fred J. (and not John)". Ascani's biography, Mentor Inbound on page 2 states, "Fred John Ascani was born Alfredo Ascani" which supports a name change, so I updated the article to show both birth name and changed name per MOS:CHANGEDNAME. The biography uses "Fred John" as the changed name rather than "Fred J." which appears to be in conflict with User:Clare ascani's assertion of "not John". I couldn't find a reliable source that states the changed name was "Fred J." vs "Fred John" so I changed the article to use "Fred John" per the bio and MOS:FULLNAME. I'll keep looking for a reference for "Fred J." vs "Fred John", but if User:Clare ascani could provide a reference (or let me know if I misunderstood her comment), that would help a lot. Skeet Shooter (talk) 02:37, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
- I changed Ascani's name back to Fred J. due to WP:WEIGHT. Although Mentor Inbound shows "Fred John" once, all remaining instances of Ascani's name are shown as "Fred J." Also, as User:Clare ascani points out, the vast majority of references to Ascani use "Fred J." Skeet Shooter (talk) 12:33, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
