Spanish Page/AIDS

Someone, any administrator, please check out the Spanish version of this page and PLEASE block the incessant edits. There are persistent vandalizers who would like to pose Frankie in a better light by having him die of some other illness than AIDS. Frankie died of AIDS, and that is the sad truth. It becomes a ridiculous exercise in redundancy when we have to constantly edit pages to erase embarrassed Fan Club contributions. What is this obsession with wanting to deny his form of death? This is and will always be an encyclopedia. We do not edit the truth simply because it is embarrassing. Someone please block the Spanish page from further vandalism! I think the French page is also equally not accurate. --76.237.184.218 (talk) 05:16, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

  • I agree with you and that is why I took action in this page (which by the way I created), however only administrators in the Spanish and French Wikipedias have the power to do the same in their version of this article. I suggest that you request an admin. intervention there. Tony the Marine (talk) 09:10, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
His official cause of death was cirrhosis, if it was caused by AIDS or not is not clear (alcoholism by itself causes this condition, and Frankie was an alcoholic for years), so I have removed all references to that for the moment due to inadequate sourcing. AFAIK, the AIDS link is nothing more than a rumor. It is noteworthy that he underwent several procedures where blood was drained from his stomach and there is no mention of special precautions being taken by any of the witnesses that were there. - Caribbean~H.Q. 18:41, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

@Caribbean H.Q.:, In addition to the above source, here is an article by Billboard released shortly after his death and it continues in another page. I'm busy with college at the moment so I don't have too much time to work on the article. I've added a music sample and any other noteworthy Latin music awards and nominations. Erick (talk) 19:14, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
Hello @Magiciandude:, thanks for that reference, it has now been incorporated into the prose. I spent the last few days trying to track down something about his concerts and tours, but have been unable to find anything useful. Most of the media reports are about his personal life or the performance of the albums, but Ruiz sold out several venues, and none of the newspaper websites mention them, which is mortifying (even YouTube is filled with videos of these tours). - Caribbean~H.Q. 20:46, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
@Caribbean H.Q.: I have access to Highbeam so I'll see if I can find anything there on my free time. EDIT: Also, AJona1992 has worked on Suavemente and it's nominated for GA. Erick (talk) 22:14, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
I will take a look. - Caribbean~H.Q. 15:33, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

@Caribbean H.Q.: I went through several HighBeam articles and found some articles about concerts that he was in as well as other stuff like a homage to him in Puerto Rico a year after his death and Nino Segarra recorded a song as a homage in one of his albums. If you have a working e-mail, I can send them you. Erick (talk) 16:21, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

@Magiciandude:, it should be working, send the links to me. - Caribbean~H.Q. 16:28, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
@Caribbean H.Q.: Alright, I have sent you an e-mail with a request so that I can export the articles on highbeam.
@Magiciandude:, I don't have the e-mail in my folder or in the spam bin. I think that the Wikipedia filter may be blocking it. I am sending you my personal e-mail. - Caribbean~H.Q. 21:17, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
@Caribbean H.Q.:  Done Okay, I have sent the files, let me know if you trouble opening them. Erick (talk) 21:24, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

I found one more source, from Descarga.com. This obituary, it mentions that Rodven Records tried to get him to re-record En Vivo and other stuff the article could use. Do you intend to nominate this for GA? Because I have submitted a request to get this article copy-edited. Erick (talk) 16:41, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

I have been waiting on the DYK nomination for a couple of weeks. Once they attend that... Sure, we could give GAN a shot. But, the copy edit may take some time, and more material can be added until it gets selected. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:03, 17 April 2016 (UTC)
Now that the copy-edit has been done and this article got DYK, are we ready to nominate this for GA? Erick (talk) 17:58, 7 May 2016 (UTC)
@Erick We should, there is nothing that is really missing and the other option is peer review, which could take a while. In the DYK nomination, there was mention that there should be a discography somewhere and I was thinking that it should probably be a separate list. What is the format that WP Latin Music favors? - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:26, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
  • I am proud of the interest and how you guys are handling Frankie's article. I am sure that a "GA" is possible between both of you. When I created the article on Frankie on November 1, 2005, I had no idea that the article would evolve into such a wonderful article. Erick thank you for sticking around you are very valuable to us Puerto Ricans in Wikipedia and you User:Caribbean H.Q. you have proven yourself to be "Un Orgullo Boricua" with the work that you have done in Wikipedia. Tony the Marine (talk) 01:39, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

Glad to see that this article has been nominated for GA, but there are some sections in here that could use some splitting up (especially his musical career) as it's very, very large and unappealing to read. There are some grammatical errors such as this sentence: "He sales surpassed those of artists". I think you guys should re-read the article to make sure there aren't anymore errors in spelling. Also, why is there no discography? There are some music terms that other readers do not know that would benefit to link (tenor), and in some sections you guys used different styles of WP:ALBUMCAPS (Desnúdate Mujer vs. Tú me vuelves loco). Thanks for catching AJona1992! You've been helpful as always! Erick (talk) 15:20, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
