Could we get a pronunciation key for his last name? --CGP 07:49, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Cyr is pronounced exactly like "Sears" except without the 's', as in "Sear". I am Dr. Frank Cyr's great nephew and was priveleged to know him well.

"Great wagon trains"

[edit]

The section titled "Rural youth, education, professor" has this sentence: "As a boy, he watched as the great wagon trains rumbled across the Great Plains, bringing settlers into his state, as well as destinations further west." This strikes me as strange: weren't the great wagon trains basically extinct by the mid-1800s with the advent of the railroad? If Cyr was born in 1900 I don't see how this sentence could be true. The only source I could find online that addresses this is the Columbia University obituary for Cyr, which says, "He said he could remember watching wagon trains move across the plains as a boy." Where are the extra details from that imply that he was witnessing part of the settlement of the West? alanyst 06:17, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My thoughts exactly. I guess I will take the bull by the horns and delete the sentence. If someone wants to disagree, sue me. :) Terry Thorgaard (talk) 15:00, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cyr and busses

An article about why school busses are the color that they are: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/history-how-school-buses-became-yellow-180973041/ Kdammers (talk) 06:05, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
