These three former US Ambassadors to Egypt served during the Reagan administration. I understand that one of them have been sent back there due to the late-January '11 uprisings against Hosni Mubarak:

Since Atherton is now deceased, I assume the relevant person is either Veliotes or Wisner. Can anyone confirm this?

I just found out that it is Frank G. Wisner.LP-mn (talk) 01:08, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mubarak

[edit]

'The Obama administration asked Wisner to carry views to Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak, including advice that Mubarak should resign to defuse the crisis. Wisner was not successful in convincing the dictator of the wisdom of the administration's suggestions.' AFAIK we don't really know precisely what message Wisner was asked to convey. It's widely speculated that Mubarak was asked to step down, but the US has definitely never confirmed this yet this seems to potray it as fact. From a quick read of the cited source this isn't supported by the source either. Nil Einne (talk) 02:35, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
