Today, which marks the fifth day since I started the Draft:Frank Fairfax, I tried to upload a photograph. I used the upload wizard, which has you upload the chosen photograph first thing, and again in the end. After filling in all of the blanks, I am asked to upload (or start over). However, the final "upload" button is nonfunctional, so I have to start over. This has actually happened to me many times, costing me much time and energy. Please advise me of another, more user-friendly. Thank you.
did you try to upload the photos on https://commons.wikimedia.org/ ? That's the place to do it, not on Wikipedia. But before doing that you need to determine who is the owner of the rights in the photos. If they were taken by anyone other than yourself, then they hold the rights. If they are family photos there probably isn't a problem, but if the photos were taken by others then copyright applies and you may not be able to use them on WP. Unfortunately, rights in photos is quite complex, but there's some help at Commons:Licensing] LaMona (talk) 21:46, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the gory detail for determining pubilc domain in the US: Hirtle chart. WP only accepts public domain materials, and does not rely on fair use (which can be questioned and therefore leads to all kinds of potential legal challenges). LaMona (talk) 22:19, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I merged many references, for readability. However, some references (family bible, unpublished letters) cannot be used because those are considered original research, so I removed those. Also, I'm not clear whether the photos were uploaded to commons or not, so that needs to be looked into. @Cmathias1:LaMona (talk) 21:40, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
