Celibacy, abortion
[edit]My last edit changed the language on the celibacy issue after checking the sources cited. Cordaro apparently didn't ask to leave the priesthood after "rejecting the vow of celibacy," which would imply a doctrinal stance, but rather because he requested to be personally relieved of the vow of celibacy which he made... And apparently, citation 1, this request was granted by his bishop. I also removed the reference to him criticizing the Church's position on abortion. I'm familiar with Cordaro's activism and had always thought of him as pro-life. The book The Catholic Worker after Dorothy by Dan McKanan, p. 200 describes Cordaro as "affirm[ing] the pro-life position." Of course if there are other citations that contradict these things, change the page back, citing an appropriate source. Bedefan (talk) 20:10, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Proposed Deletion
[edit]This article does not mention why the subject is considered notable or "significant, interesting, or unusual enough to deserve attention or to be recorded" according to WP:N. Quitting the Catholic Priesthood may be notable if covered by major media, a rare occurrence, or surrounded by significant controversy. Merely an announcement that an individual has left the priesthood is insufficient in itself.
Similarly, attending protests or being arrested in connection with those protests is insufficient to create notability, unless the individual is related to media coverage or controversy about the event.
Finally, much of the article reads as a biography and doesn't address why he is a notable figure. While receiving the "Peace Abbey Courage of Conscience Award" may be a notable achievement, there is no background of events leading to the award, or the significance of the award. Simply noting that the individual is a recipient would be better located at the "Peace Abbey" or "Courage of Conscience Award" pages, if appropriate. Biccat (talk) 15:10, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
