Notability
[edit]Perhaps User:BilledMammal could use this talk page to explain why he thinks the subject of this article is not notable. Deb (talk) 07:44, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
- I think notability is not demonstrated, because no significant coverage is provided; the tag requests that editors
help to demonstrate the notability of the topic by citing reliable secondary sources that are independent of the topic and provide significant coverage of it beyond a mere trivial mention.
Whether they are notable is a different question; there is very little information about many of these early athletes, and it is possible that not enough information exists for it to be possible that they are notable. However, in this case if sufficient information exists I believe they will be notable, due to the novelty of their achievements. BilledMammal (talk) 08:07, 7 March 2022 (UTC) - I believe he's probably notable and unlike some Olympians of that era, we can verify more than his name, sport. Sourcing is thin and it isn't a clear cut pass, and these aren't in depth mentions, however the reality is he competed 120 years so we have to be a little lenient vs. an athlete competing today. Some possible options: this book, in Spanish, this one, albeit more about Pelota than VIllota himself. Is this a reliable source when it comes to sports, athletes? If so, it could also work. A merger to the games wouldn't be amiss, but I think rather than re-tagging (per your question on my Talk, @BilledMammal:, you should either take this to AfD if you feel strongly or see whether the sources also mentioned in the article can be further incorporated.
