Death date
Joseph McCabe's intro to his 1913 translation of Ferrer's Origin and Ideals of the Modern School notes Ferrer's death date as October 12, 1909, not October 13 as this article says at the beginning. I also found a reference to a Ferrer memorial on October 12, 1913 in the Goldman Papers Project at UC Berkeley [1]. Perhaps the 13th was his burial date, but I think contemporary sources point to the 12th for his death. Mike Dillon 07:29, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
Final paragraph
Don't you think that last paragraph about the Lex ave. bomb is inflammatory? They were Caron, Hansen and Berg were only associated with the Ferrer Center and please cite where it says that they planned the bombing there. Not everyone in the flat was killed, either. Please remove or rethink this paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.86.120.102 (talk) 12:03, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Freemason
Francesc Ferrer i Guardia was a notable Freemason -his Masonic attire is displayed at the Grand Orient de France museum. It must be added that Freemasonry, in Spain, has been mostly a progressive and left-thinking association. In case sources are needed,

The French Connection
Difficult to know how to integrate this, but the predominantly socialist and (of course) republican South of France were horrified by his execution. Many towns, including Carcassonne renamed streets in his honour. This article in French http://musiqueetpatrimoine.blogs.lindependant.com/archive/2016/02/27/francisco-ferrer-n-a-pas-droit-de-cite-a-carcassonne-217713.html has some interesting detail. Title
This is not an entry about a Mickey Mouse individual. There are plenty of contemporary English-name sources about this man as well as more recent ones (credible sources you can cite with historiographical value and dealing deeply with the topic, not a search engine), where he is overwelmingly known by the name of "Francisco Ferrer" (that also happens to be the name as he was also generally known by). That name (currently a salted redirect) is the name the entry should be titled after, per WP:AT. "Wikipedia generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources)". Requested move 20 December 2018
The request to rename this article to Francisco Ferrer has been carried out. |
Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia → Francisco Ferrer – This is not an entry about a Mickey Mouse individual. There are plenty of contemporary English-name sources about this man as well as more recent ones (credible sources you can cite with historiographical value and dealing with the topic in deep, not a search engine, several of them already cited in the entry), where he is overwelmingly known by the name of "Francisco Ferrer" (that also happens to be the name as he was also generally known by). That name (currently a salted redirect) is the name the entry should be titled after, per WP:AT. "Wikipedia generally prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable English-language sources)". Regards. Asqueladd (talk) 22:13, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
- I consider this move uncontroversial, having been requested years ago with no comment. Ferrer-without-Guardia is easily the common name in English-language sources. If anyone disagrees, feel free to reopen this RM discussion and we can go through the motion. I'm mainspacing my draft and the older history is available here. czar 05:59, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
DOB in lede
if [the full vital dates] are also mentioned in the body, the vital year range (in brackets after the person's full name) may be sufficient to provide context.
— MOS:BIRTHDATE
[2] @RichardWeiss, the MOS, quoted above, makes it clear that full date ranges are not necessary in the first sentence of the lede. It adds bloat to ostensibly the article's most important sentence, especially when those facts are available both within the infobox and the article itself. Also you have enough experience as an editor to know, per WP:BRD, that our procedure for contesting edits is to take your reverted edit to the talk page. The burden is on you as the editor passing through to make your case, not to edit war your proposed edit back into the article. Please revert your edit. czar 23:54, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
