*Bigon contradicts himself...first he says that Monarch plans to conquer Earth with a poison that causes matter to shrink in on itself and reduce people to the size of a grain of salt, then when Tegan asks if Monarch will kill them if they refuse to aid in his cause, Bigon says, "it is not death, first you are hypnotized and made to recall all your life, it is recorded and microchipped and then your body is destroyed and you are remade as I am!" Another contradiction is that Bigon tells the Doctor that Monarch polluted and destroyed Urbanka with his technology in his attempt to go back to the Big Bang and beyond to meet himself because he believes he is "God". If Urbanka was destroyed then, how could Bigon and the remaining Androids take the ship back to Urbanka?

How does Bigon contradict himself? Monarch wants to destroy the earth, yeah, but he doesn't want to kill the doctor and his lot, he just wants to turn them into robots. Plus, this is so not how you write an encyclopaedic article.Andral 03:01, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Continuity Error?

[edit]

I just watched this series and noticed a continuity error. Why is it that while every other culture and alien species appears to speak english, the Australian Aboriginal doesnt. Normally the justification is that the TARDIS in some way translates, yet it appears to fail in this instance. Was the bit about the TARDIS translating only established later? or did they mess up on this episode? And as a side note, worst stereotype ever: why is it that teagan can understand the aboriginal? (the justification appears to be that they are both from Australia) not only are there hundreds of aboriginal dialects, but aside from the occasional linguist, very few non-aboriginal australians speak those languages. its like expecting an American to speak American Indian. - Mloren (talk) 09:59, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On the DVD commentary Janet Fielding noted this herself - her character is from Brisbane and able to speak what is an Aboriginal language from the Arnhem Land (to say nothing of whether that would have been spoken 35,000 odd years ago!).
The TARDIS translation stuff is extremely variable throughout the show's history. It's not explicitly mentioned until the Masque of Mandragora in 1976, (and it's described as a "Time Lord" ability that the Doctor can share with his companions rather than a TARDIS thing) and there are times after that when it isn't present (e.g. the Fomasi in the Leisure Hive aren't intelligible to the Doctor or Romana without translator boxes, the French in City of Death speak French); to say nothing of moments when others identify aliens as speaking English (e.g. the Two Doctors!).
