[edit]Has anyone noticed that this page deals with the abolition of the Four Olds, and not what the Four Olds were actually about? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.110.118.208 (talk) 22:01, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- From what I could find at depts.washington.edu/chinaciv/graph/9wenge.htm, the four olds are "old ideas, old culture, old customs, and old habits". The source looks legitimate to me, but I'd appreciate the input of someone with more knowledge of modern Chinese history. 24.247.213.106 (talk) 12:03, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Is this really analogous to the persecution of Confucian scholars under Qin?
[edit]I am deleting this sentence: "Such campaigns have precedent in Chinese history – see the burning of books and burying of scholars." There are numerous examples in Chinese history of persecutions of non-official religions. There are no precedents for a nationwide campaign to destroy all vestiges of culture and tradition. If someone strongly wants this sentence to remain, I suggest they find a good source to cite that draws the same parallel. Homunculus (duihua) 14:48, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
Came to the article to see a list or a table of those olds, but it's not there.
[edit](didn't actually read it). Is there some reason that there's no table like this? _Vi (talk) 17:05, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Simple. Old ideas and gurus -> new ones, including Mr Mao.

So about what exactly consisted the 4 olds?
[edit]What were the old ideas, old culture, old customs and old habits? Does anyone even know? 190.25.113.134 (talk) 22:22, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
Subject has room for improvement
[edit]For a class, I'm taking I'm going to be updating the Four Olds page. In regards to the Cultural Revolution, the current article explains some of the Cultural Campaigns damages to sites and public property. Yet it covers some of the greater destruction, I hope to also discuss how it affected single individuals commonly across China as well using Spider Eaters and other online sources for examples. I will also add to the major events of the destruction of four olds if I find any not already covered. The page could also stand to better explain what the four olds are.
My first goal however is to ask if anyone can think of any good sources for this material that they've seen before? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahaines01 (talk • contribs) 21:53, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
