First French Military Garrison in Michigan
[edit]Dunbar & May (3rd ed., p. 41) note that a force of thirty soldiers had been sent to Fort du Buade (St. Ignace) in 1683, and this would constitute the first french military garrison in Michigan, not the force that was sent to Fort St. Joseph in 1686.
