Source of tension in 1897
[edit]Just to note that the war-preparations noted in the article in 1897 are to do with the Alaska boundary dispute, which was threatening to boil over into war at the time. Don't have a cite for that; note also that in 1878 while Russia was the main enemy, the US was likely to be the attacker at this location as a Russian ally. Fort Rodd, in other words, like Esquimalt itself, was garrisoned in anticipation of American attack. Skookum1 (talk) 05:42, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
