General comments
[edit]Nice idea this page, but we should be careful! Please, please, please let's not make this an exhaustive list of every single minor livery chage that ever happened ever to any car, season by season. I have formatted the Lotus list as I see the format evolving, I don't know if you agree? A few summary points:
- List should be tabulated according to every time the livery changes, by which I mean a significant change in the colour palette used, not just when a sponsor changes typeface!
- Only major secondary sponsors should be listed (i.e. those with a substantial logo e.g. a whole wing/sidepod etc.), there being generally only one or two in any one season.
- Please always bear in mind that we are a general encyclopedia, not an F1 trivia bank, that's what ChicaneF1 is for! So keep information readable, well formatted and interesting!

Williams
[edit]I know I'm a bit backwards, but I genuinely have no idea how to edit the contents. If anyone finds this message before I figure it out please add Williams on there for me, then delete this message. Thanks!

- Looks like you worked it out. DH85868993 (talk) 21:22, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Does it happen automatically? That seemed very quick. Chippyminton91 (talk) 20:03, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- No, this page is on my watchlist and I just happened to be online when you added the comment. DH85868993 (talk) 01:54, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Inconsistent column titles
[edit]In some tables, the title of the fourth column is "Main sponsor(s)"; in others it's "Livery sponsor(s)". Assuming that the column title should be the same for all the tables, which is the preferred option? DH85868993 (talk) 11:34, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think there is and should be a difference. Some teams have a livery which is fully decided by the sponsors and have the sponsor's color as the main color of the car. There, the sponsor is a real livery sponsor. For others, like Ferrari and BMW, the sponsors have never fully taken over the design of the livery. Then the sponsor is a main sponsor.
- The main reason for this list is however not to list sponsors but to list the color shemes of the cars in different seasons, so the cars in old images may be easier to identify. That was the reason I created the page in the first place. I haven't done much to it since then but am glad to see that others have been working on it. John Anderson (talk) 14:07, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Renault F1
[edit]I added the first stint of Renault as an F1 team from 1977-1985. I didn't mentioned that Renault was an engine supplier in 1986 and from 1989 and onwards cause this article is about teams and nothing else.
When looking at the pictures from the 70's and 80's of a Renault F1 car I can only distinguish ONE major sponsor in ELF. Michelin is dotted here and there, but I don't know if they count as a secondary sponsor. Kaiketsu (talk) 18:19, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Formatting idea
[edit]At the moment, the large number of images is making the article look very cluttered. Would it be cleaner to use the <gallery></gallery> format under each section instead?--Diniz(talk) 19:45, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think that's a good idea, especially for teams which have had several quite distinct liveries over the years, e.g Jordan, Lotus, McLaren, Williams, etc. For teams that only had one major colour scheme and/or where we only have one suitable photo, e.g. Prost and Red Bull, I'd probably just leave the current format, rather than have a gallery with one photo in it. DH85868993 (talk) 00:39, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've made the changes.--Diniz(talk) 11:10, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Team member clothing
[edit]A few recent edits have added details of non-tobacco changes to team member clothing. Do we want that? Or should this article be restricted to what appears on the cars only? DH85868993 (talk) 03:43, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
- It's what colors is and has been present on the cars which is important. The sponsors are not even important, they are listed just to explain the color sheme of the cars. John Anderson (talk) 14:40, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Longest sponsorship deal
[edit]In the McLaren section it is stated that "McLaren had the longest sponsorship deal in F1 history with Marlboro, whose red-and-white pattern appeared on the team's cars for 23 straight years." However, Malboro has been sponsoring Ferrari since de mid 1980s. Does anyone have any reference to support that statement? Or should we just remove or change it? Luiz.bortolan (talk) 23:35, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Historic teams
[edit]Someone had removed the information about teams not longer competing. I have put them back. There is no reason for it not to be here.
I agree the page might be a bit long, but that is more due to the fact there is an exesive amound of information about almost all sponsors for all teams, even if this page is intended to show the livery colors each year, not a list of sponsors.
If something should be made shorter, one could take the information for the current year (and not historical inforation about each of the current teams) and present it in a section of this year's main article. John Anderson (talk) 15:18, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- I personally don't have strong feelings about whether the page should be split or not, but FYI, here's a link to the previous discussion on the topic (at WT:F1), the outcome of which was 1 editor in favour of the split; none opposed and 1 editor questioning whether we need the page(s) at all. DH85868993 (talk) 21:01, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- To have such a low number of people saying anything about the change is not getting a consensus, I think. I wouldn't mind a split of this page since it is getting long, but then we should discuss by what lines it should be split up. Just to lift out the teams which are no longer active is not a good idea, since it makes it impossible to make comparission year-by-year. Perhaps the information for each year should be added to each year's page instead? John Anderson (talk) 12:08, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not really fond of that idea - I think the most interesting(?) element of the page is the progression of the livery for a particular team over time. Why don't we just leave all teams on the one page - with both current and former teams it's only 60k and there are plenty of pages larger than that (e.g. 2009 Formula One season is 112k). DH85868993 (talk) 07:09, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps, we could divide the page into decades. Therefore, the article would show the livery progression and it would be easier to compare with the other contemporary teams. Luiz.bortolan (talk) 10:23, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
Something to note is that while this discussion is in progress, the "former teams" information exists in two articles; this one and Formula One sponsorship liveries (Former Teams) and both are being edited independently. What do people think of the idea of merging the current contents of Formula One sponsorship liveries (Former Teams) into this article and converting Formula One sponsorship liveries (Former Teams) into a redirect to this article (with an edit summary pointing to this discussion) while the discussion is still in progress? DH85868993 (talk) 02:58, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. Luiz.bortolan (talk) 05:44, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- If there are no objections within 24 hours, that's what I'll do. DH85868993 (talk) 10:31, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- I also agree. John Anderson (talk) 14:56, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- OK. Merge is done. Apologies for any edits I lost in the process. DH85868993 (talk) 12:47, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Video game livery changes
[edit]I have just removed a statement that for the Jordan team, "Benson & Hedges" was changes to a barcode in the videogame Formula 1 2002. I think this article should be restricted to livery changes that actually occurred on the real-life cars. But I'm open to other opinions. DH85868993 (talk) 02:45, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- I'm with you on that. This is not a page for fictional formula one, information like that could be noted in an article about that videogame but not here. John Anderson (talk) 16:00, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
Formatting question
[edit]Want to know why this article is grouped by Constructors when liviries is essentially a property of Teams. I ask this prior to ripping into it to make appropriate corrections. In case regular contributors have some kind of preference. --Falcadore (talk) 07:19, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- I agree that the article should be grouped by teams. Having said that, I believe it essentially already is - as far as I can tell, each table documents only the livery of the works team for each constructor; the sections are just labelled with constructor names instead of team names. Can you give an example of the sort of correction you are proposing, so we can analyse it for any possible issues? DH85868993 (talk) 08:42, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- Just as an initial note there would be relabelling of chapters to reflect teams and removal of photographs which belong to other teams not the main team of the mentioned constructor. Probably a series of ongoing changes but there is a start. --Falcadore (talk) 09:52, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
- That sounds fine to me. DH85868993 (talk) 10:22, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

References for sponsors before 2004
[edit]I really love the list. I have one problem though: Can you please tell me where you got the information about former sponsorship liveries from? I know that the list on www.formula1.com ends in the year 2004. I would be pleased about some support on this matter. Csak2174 (talk) 16:23, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Lotus F1
[edit]Where should Lotus F1 be put in? It is the successor to the Renault F1 team, but is owned by Genii Capital, which also owns Lotus Cars (hence the Lotus branding). Should it be put under Lotus (2010-2011) or Renault? In either case, it should be added to the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.195.98.94 (talk) 01:34, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
- For clarity/ease-of-finding-it-ness, create a new section called "Lotus F1", following "Lotus (2010-2011)". DH85868993 (talk) 01:41, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
Request for illustrations
[edit]Hi all,
For now, we need:
- images of 1999 Arrows A20 with either countdown on the side or "t-minus" logo
- images of McLaren MP4-28 at the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix with the Zain branding.
If anyone can give such images out to Wikimedia, please do! Ximaera (talk) 22:42, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
Williams Sponsor Update Request (2014)
[edit]Simple Request (I personally don't know of an edit request template for non-protected articles): Add a row in Williams' table for their 2014 Martini Racing livery along with other associate sponsors. 75.177.141.0 (talk) 08:15, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
- Done. DH85868993 (talk) 08:37, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

Marussia
[edit]There was a single sentence on Marussia lurking in the "Maki" section; I've moved this to its own section but haven't added a table or any further detail. The "History" page doesn't appear to have put in my edit summary before spontaneously saving the change, or else this iPad is suffering from droid rot. Mr Larrington (talk) 23:04, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
Hill
[edit]I've added a section for Hill, with a bit of detail, but don't have the necessary info to do the table. Mr Larrington (talk) 23:42, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Jordan 1996 not with Pepsi afaik; 1991 and 1995 yes, partially
[edit]Hi guys I cannot find any Pepsi branding on the Jordan J196. Instead, there was one at the GP JPN in 1991 when 7Up was switched to Pepsi; and in 1995 at the GP BRA. Not sure anywhere else. I also think that the liveries transferred into videogames are quite an interesting dimension, marketing wise; adding countless hours / amount of contact; and might help to make this page here as complete as possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gosac007 (talk • contribs) 13:40, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
Just about making research about PepsiCo in F1. I cannot find a Jordan from 1996 (J196) with Pepsi branding (just at the GP BRA on perimeter boards).
In 1991 for the GP JPN they switched from 7Up to Pepsi. <http://f1-history.deviantart.com/art/Andrea-de-Cesaris-Japan-1991-409438530> In 1995 they were personal sponsor of Rubens Barrichello and also appeared on the cars at the GP BRA on the sides of the cockpit <http://f1-history.deviantart.com/art/Eddie-Irvine-Brazil-1995-554159113>. Not sure whether anywhere else that season.
Adding here trackside sponsors would make sense.
I also think that the liveries transferred into videogames are quite an interesting dimension, marketing wise; adding countless hours / amount of contact; and might help to make this page here (real-life liveries) as complete as possible. Gosac007 Gosac007 (talk) 14:37, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

FYI: Discussion in the German portal about a retouched picture or a fake
[edit]We've discussed, is that picture a fake or not, and after long discussion in the German motorsport portal (Link to discussion (German)) we've an aligned decision:
The picture will not used further more in the German Wikipedia! This picture has been retouched to the point where it is not clear if it actually represents what it claims to represent. regards --Pitlane02 🏁 talk 17:14, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
