What is the history of this school?

Copy edit

[edit]

I'm sorry but we have the wrong template here. One sentence is not enough to copy-edit. Perhaps try adding the technical heading. (I will do). I think the technical heading is the wrong tag. Thatcher131 00:41, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Section moved from article page

[edit]

I pulled this new section off the article page because it is unsourced, and I really think it doesn't belong in the article.

== Traffic Issues ==
Forest High School is located on Maricamp Road, also known as SR-464. The school adds to the already heavily traveled road. Around the beginning and end of each school day, vehicles headed toward the school create alot of congestion.

EMIT section

[edit]

The EMIT program at Forest High School in an engineering magnet program that is not explained very much. I have added a new section for it:

The Engineering and Manufacturing Institute of Technology (EMIT)

EMIT is a four year magnet engineering program at Forest High School. EMIT aims to teach its students engineering fundamentals to prepare them for postsecondary colleges or universities in engineering. The curriculum is heavily project based that often include problem-solving tasks which must be built and later presented to the teachers. These projects typically cover the basics of many engineering disciplines, including civil engineering, aerospace engineering, and more.

EMIT was created from a $1.2 million Florida Department of Education grant in 1994. An application is required to be considered for admission. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicolef6 (talkcontribs) 08:22, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mention shooting?

There's been a bit of a slow-motion edit war over whether to mention the shooting - multiple editors (Jax 0677, Yeenosaurus, JustARandomGuyWithALaptop, and several IPs) have added in a section, while John from Idegon has been reverting the addition citing WP:NOTNEWS. This has resulted in a rather confused RfD on Forest High School shooting because of the instability of the article content. Could we discuss whether or not information about the shooting belongs on this article? Also pinging Steel1943 and Tavix, who participated in the RfD. ansh666 19:38, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • No way. First, this school is 49 years old. This is the only history mentioned, and obviously it is not history. So for 49 years, absolutely nothing happened, and then a criminal incident occurred in the school and that is the single most important thing, indeed, the only thing worth mentioning, that has happened? The fact that you want to pick the low hanging fruit by adding this current event, which didn't hold interest outside of town for past one news cycle, is most definitely WP:RECENT. In the context of a reasonably complete history section, I would not object to a statement that a shooting occurred with no fatalities in the school in April 2018. However without some context to place it in, it creates WP:WEIGHT issues. This school has likely expanded at least once, considering its location, it has probably had weather damage....and so on. Second, the fact that it is important locally is totally irrelevant. We don't edit sociopolitical geography articles to make them useful to the locals. The locals have the newspapers and can go to the local library to find out local info. Instead, an article on a feature on the landscape such as a community or a school, should be edited to provide a relatively complete overview for the rest of the world on what the reliable sources have said about the entire history of the subject. @John from Idegon: there was consensus to include the information on the shooting in this article, yet you keep removing it, citing a lack of consensus. Why? To participants of the above discussion, @Jax 0677, Yeenosaurus, JustARandomGuyWithALaptop, and Galobtter: have your views changed at all? ansh.666 18:49, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

John from Idegon, the right way to dispute a close this old would of course be to start a new discussion and see if consensus has changed, not to repeatedly revert against consensus. Galobtter (pingó mió) 20:59, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
