Relations with neighbors were based of conflicts?
All countries in the world had border skirmishes. Eritrea only had a war with Ethiopia.
Ethiopia invaded Eritrea in 1998.
Eritrea and Yemen had skirmishes over the Hanish islands, UN awarded parts of the islands and the waters to Yemen and Eritrea.
But it is Yemeni fishermen crossing Eritrea‘s and Somalias sea, it’s the Yemeni Houthis that shoot cargos of western countries on Eritrean and Djibouti side of the border.
Eritrea Sudan conflict were skirmishes, Sudan hosted Eritrean Islamic Jihad and allowed the TPLF led Ethiopian army to invade Eritrea and enter western lowlands of Eritrea during the 1998-2000 border war. And Eritrea having supported Sudanis rebels.
At the end of the day the Cold War, the annexation of Eritrea by Ethiopia has caused a regional war in Eastern Africa.
And it’s to easy to blame Eritrea for it, as many of these things existed before Eritrea became independent (South Sudan-Sudan conflict, Ogaden war, Somalia-Ethiopia war)
Eritrean-Ethiopian relations
[edit]The section on Eritrean/Ethiopian relations is assuredly slanted against the Ethiopians, as well as being poorly written. This sentence, to wit: "In April 2002 the EEBC disclosed its proceedings on the matter by giving key town of Bademe to Eritrea the thing which Ethiopia failed to accept." That sentence doesn't make much sense and needs to be fixed; sadly I'm not well versed on this subject. Anyway, the whole section stinks of partisanship, highlighting Ethiopian failures and transgressions in the peace process without mention of any Eritrean missteps, of which I'm sure there are several. Needs a rewrite in NPOV and more data. Dziban303 (talk) 14:59, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
- I think I cleaned it up a bit. Let me know if this is what you were looking for Merhawie (talk) 23:32, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
- Ethiopia only broke the Algiers agreement. 2003:CB:4F24:5000:D1AC:2A3A:AAD:55F3 (talk) 18:29, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
I think Eritrea–Ethiopia relations are worthy of a separate article given their complex and brutal history. Charles Essie (talk) 20:43, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
- The bilateral relations definitely could use a separate article. It's likely a topic with quite a bit of material. CMD (talk) 20:04, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
- I agree that the subject deserves a separate article. However, I was redirected here from the tag here. I think that section is largely unsourced and includes an unnecessary amount of detail so agree it should be cut down, although the split shouldn't necessarily come from Afewerki's page. Dreambeaver(talk) 17:24, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
- Does anyone want to move forward with creating one? It doesn't seem like there are going to be any objections to this page creation. Dreambeaver(talk) 17:57, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- You are quite at liberty to create a new article. However, I don't think you should split this article. Op47 (talk) 15:46, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
