Merge proposal
[edit]Thanks to User:Matticus78 for pointing out that there's an existing article called Emergency landing. I searched for Forced landing and Crash landing before starting this article, but didn't think of that one.
In its current state, the Emergency landing article is little more than a checklist of the kind that student pilots memorize — it doesn't look much like an encyclopedia article. Perhaps the best choice would be to delete the current contents of that article, merge this one (Forced landing) into one section, and add a Precautionary landing section as well, then redirect everything to Emergency landing. - Yes, that seems a sensible way to do it. Salvage any usable content from Emergency landing before combining, and put a redirect at Precautionary landing unless/until there's enough content for precautionary to get its own page. ~ Matticus78 16:24, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Un-merge
[edit]I took the bold step of unmerging, as there have been cases in which airliners have been forced to land after intruding into the airspace of a hostile foreign power. It seems nicer to force the plane to land, rather than to shoot it down. Both the Israelis and the Soviets in the 20th century seemed to get a kick out of shooting down airliners, justifying it on the grounds of "spying" or something.
This article will show that there are alternatives - not that I'm recommending anything - and if others will help me, I'd even like to figure out how often the peaceful alternative is taken. --Uncle Ed 00:45, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Unsure
[edit]I think the discreption of a forced landing in this artical could be better, for one I would describe landing because of poor weather or because of potential engine failior (ie. low oil pressure) a precausunary landing as the landing is a choice and not forced (even if it is the only good choice). --Si Co15 (talk) 15:11, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
