Removing current image

[edit]

I am removing the current image as it does not decipt Footscray, rather the suburb of West Melbourne and the locality of Coodes Island.

I can't find any other suitable images of Footscray on WP for this article, so I'll take a photo or two next time I venture up that way.

Franco Cozzo

[edit]

I tidied up the claims that Cozzo "mispronounced" Footscray in his ads. Listen: [1] - in the English language section, he says it correctly. In the later Italian language segment of the ad, he says it with a pronouced Italian accent. (And why not? How to Australians pronounce "Venice"? Incorrectly?). Comprare da Franco Cozzo! Crime

[edit]

I have removed the reference to Project Reduction as it really had no impact on crime in the area, was notoriously unpopular with welfare and health services and many magistrates would not implement it. I do wonder what the motive was for that to be included - i.e.: has this been written by a real estate agent? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.243.114.41 (talk) 00:49, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletions

[edit]

The following have been deleted

The following may be moved to the body of the article, then deleted from External Links

Arts section

[edit]

Should the arts section be developed to include a wider variety of groups, events, venues? Suggestions include:

  • Women's Circus (e.g. at FCAC)
  • Film school (esp. link to details about Footscray College media program) wcrosbie, Melbourne, Australia 23:47, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
  • please add your suggestion

POV: ugly art deco awnings

[edit]

Are the art deco awnings ugly? Who said so? The following quote is subjective, in ways not even supported in the self promoting blog that's cited: "Footscray has some fine 1930's Art Deco buildings, most in disrepair, waiting to be exposed from behind shop signs and ugly awnings.[1]" wcrosbie (talk), Melbourne, Australia 14:12, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bare URLs

[edit]

This article consists of a large number of bare URLs—I have made a start, but the issue needs to be addressed, or, at the least, identified with a tag.--Soulparadox (talk) 22:59, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Subjective is ok. We are humans talking to humans. We are subjective about most things, maybe not about maths, I'm not sure about maths. If someone wants to add a non-subjective comment about what they see or perceive in architecture, it seems like they can do that too.

If this page was about which medicine to take the reader would expect all the references. If it's about what anyone can find in Footscray, well common sense says not all residents are historians, and their contributions can be accepted in that light. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Irmgarde (talkcontribs) 05:21, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Image of hording sign

[edit]

I think the image was poorly placed. Also, it's part of an image used in the town planning section. So, I've removed it pending better placement and/or a consensus here on the merit of its inclusion. wcrosbie (talk), Melbourne, Australia 23:28, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The photo is fine, and ok under town planning section. Town Planning includes new buildings going up - that's what this photo captures. Anyone got any other photos to add? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Irmgarde (talkcontribs) 05:15, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Below is a list of links that were found on the main page:

I've removed a couple of external links, including the one to the cjb DOT net page. 08:02, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Highest Soil Contamination

[edit]

The soil of Footscray has the highest lead contamination of any region around Melbourne according to Preliminary assessment of surface soil lead concentrations in Melbourne, Australia, 2017. 2601:14A:600:6420:C2A7:E31B:B641:2961 (talk) 13:23, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Undoing American spelling

[edit]

I've undone some of the last edit by 1.145.81.244. Mostly it's constructive, but they seem to have a thing for changing Australian articles to use American spelling. —rjt (talk) 05:08, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Local Transport

[edit]

This article really needs a dedicated section detailing the local transport in the area. There's not a single mention of Middle Footscray station or tram route 82, yet the Town Planning section is overly detailed and full of pointless information. TowradgiStn (talk) 03:51, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
