On the FIFA website it states that South Africa has qualified for the 2016 summer Olympics. FIFA
It is needed to remove the italics and as well the reference source attached to the team

- Done –
The South African Olympic Committee reiterated on 10 July 2015 that "[n]o continental qualification will be considered" and that the men's and women's football teams must be the top-ranked teams in Africa in order to receive the OC's blessing to compete in Brazil. Until SASCOC announces that they will participate in men's football, the qualification is provisional. — Jkudlick tcs 06:17, 24 December 2015 (UTC) - And I just now found something which contradicts what was previously believed to be true. In this regard, it is SASCOC’s determination that, in order for South African football to participate at Rio 2016, it will have to qualify through the continental route, as there is no alternative structure in place to allow for selection. I will make the appropriate change with the proper citation in my edit summary. — Jkudlick tcs 06:30, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
Recent use of {{flagIOCathlete}} instead of {{fbu}} and {{fbw}} in qualification tables
[edit]It is my understanding that {{flagIOCathlete}} is intended to be used only with regard to individual athletes, and that convention has been to use {{fbu}} and {{fbw}} for the football teams in Olympic articles. I have started this talk page section to discuss this with the editors who have been involved in the recent edit "skirmish" (I won't call it an edit war just yet). I'm inviting Noncommittalp, Raymarcbadz, and Qed237 specifically to take part, though any editor is certainly free to add their thoughts. — Jkudlick tcs 09:15, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
- I have got the exact same understanding as Jkudlick. Qed237 (talk) 12:57, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
Draw preparation
[edit]Hi.
I am guessing that many editor, including myself, are planning to follow the draw tomorrow. The reason for this discussion is to see if some agreement maybe can be made to avoid edit conflicts if many editors want to edit. I have done these kind of agreements before with success and there are different ways to divide the work, between tables and articles.
Of course anyone is allowed to edit whatever they want, I am just trying to avoid edit conflicts and editors doing the same work.
Editors I believe are interested include User:The Replicator, User:GAV80, User:Jkudlick, User:Kante4 and User:Chanheigeorge, but of course anyone can join.
By the way, does anyone know how to best follow the draw? fifa.com? Qed237 (talk) 23:55, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Qed237: Thank you for trying to coordinate our efforts. I believe the best way to follow the draw is on FIFA.com. I will not be able to update the tables because the draw will be held while I am asleep. Good luck! — Jkudlick • t • c • s 00:03, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Qed237: Tomorrow I'll probably do some updates at the Portuguese Segunda Liga, but if I get some time, I may take a look at the draw and see what I can do. The Replicator (talk) 00:13, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- My main focus will be on the standings tables. Other things that could be done includes individual articles for all groups, the matches (which has been templates earlier). A good idea is to look at {{2016 Summer Olympics football convenience template navbox}} and all related items, both for men and women. Qed237 (talk) 00:20, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- Can do the templates later tonight, if no one else does it before me. Kante4 (talk) 14:43, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Matches and templates
[edit]I have seen in {{2016 Summer Olympics football convenience template navbox}} that matches are named A1, A2 and so on and that we have had templates for all matches. This is the same in other sports as well. Would it not be better if we name the matches according to FIFA (match 1, match 2 and so on) or if we name them after the teams, i.e. Sweden v Australia, or something instead? In my opinion it looks a bit weird now with X1 and the teams in small (i dont like small at should be avoided if possible per MOS:ACCESS). Qed237 (talk) 14:57, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- Fine as it is and worked nice the last times. Not a thing we should worry about... Kante4 (talk) 15:26, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- Okay, I just noticed it when the womens were A1, A2 and so on for group E. Then I started thinking about the names if the should change somehow to have E, F and G for women's and something else in knockout stage. Qed237 (talk) 15:36, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- That can be done i say. E/F/G is more simple and less confusing maybe. Go ahead. Kante4 (talk) 16:01, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- Done that. Kante4 (talk) 16:47, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Kante4: Great, but how about the fact the both men's quarterfinals and women's group stage is E1 now? Does that matter? Qed237 (talk) 17:42, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- QF1-QF4 for men's tournament and QF5-QF8 for women's (quarterfinals) and so on? Just an idea. Qed237 (talk) 17:49, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
- That's not a problem i say. Different tournaments. I would leave it like that, but if others want to change it they can. Will create the templates soon. Kante4 (talk) 18:02, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Inclusion of Football at the 2015 Pan American Games
[edit]@Montell 74: You removed a wikilink to an article which is actually related; the 2014 Copa América Femenina served as qualifiers for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, 2015 Pan American Games, and this year's Olympics. I reverted your change, and the appropriate course of action for you per WP:BRD was to begin discussion here. I have instead begun the discussion, and I will revert your change again because it is a related tournament through the common qualifier. There was a similar discussion regarding why the two 2015 tournaments were linked on their pages. — Jkudlick • t • c • s 10:22, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
- 2015 Pan American Games is no qualifier for olympic tournament. So there is no evidence.Montell 74 (talk) 10:29, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
