Possible future edits
[edit]We could make some edits to tighten organization and focus more sharply on key global food policy challenges. Could shorten the discussion of multiple second-tier food policy issues (mentioning each one more briefly, with outward links to the relevant full articles). Could shorten current discussion of food policy old and new (good in 2003, now dated). Could shorten history, while expanding contemporary food policy issues. Within each section, could put global issues first and U.S. issues second (at present, U.S. issues seem to dominate). Could add a paragraph with links to the disciplines that undergird food policy (agricultural economics, political science, sociology, etc.).
Good source for global food policy issues related to chronic disease: http://www.wcrf.org/int/policy/evidence-policy
Good source for global food policy issues related especially to food security and adequacy of world food production: International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).

Also, the page for "agricultural policy" currently includes broad food policy content, while this food policy page includes substantial agricultural policy. Food policy is a broad topic that includes agricultural policy. We could move some of the broad food policy coverage from agricultural policy to this article, tighten the agricultural policy focus on agricultural policy specifically, and shorten the agricultural policy coverage here on the food policy page (with strong outbound link to agricultural policy page for more detail). I'll check back in 2 weeks to see if anybody had suggestions, then I'll attempt edits along these lines.130.64.4.49 (talk) 13:07, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]Is there anything particular that should be added to this page so far? I have added some material but does anyone have any ideas on something that is a for sure needs to be included? Thank you Kimberly wymer (talk) 01:01, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
- Check out this for the myplate image, if anyone is interested in adding it to this article Kayz911 (talk) 00:34, 1 May 2012 (UTC):
Dr. Mabiso's comment on this article
[edit]Dr. Mabiso has reviewed this Wikipedia page, and provided us with the following comments to improve its quality:
This article is quite comprehensive and accurate but could have included more on food aid in developing countries and the changes that have happened in how food aid is administered. Also, it could have covered more on food trade globally and the global regulation of food trade through the World Trade Organization and through bilaterial and regional trade agreements.
We hope Wikipedians on this talk page can take advantage of these comments and improve the quality of the article accordingly.
Dr. Mabiso has published scholarly research which seems to be relevant to this Wikipedia article:

Possible Updates?
[edit]It is important to see if there is any information that is out of date. I think it would be interesting to talk about some US politicians that are notable in food policy, with information about what changes they may potentially make to the food system. This may work if the information is from credible sites, and if the politicians are directly quoted. Mentioning key players that are not politicians, for example economist Dambisa Moyo, could contribute to a better dialogue to add complexity to the topic of food policy. I also plan to check over the sources to ensure their credibility, while also trying to include additional sources. Information about global food policy is missing; I think it would be more precise if the title of the page was changed to Food Policy in the US, or more global issues were added. There are also many external links, which makes me wonder if shortening the information would be helpful since these topics already have their own page; ie, for more information on MyPlate, click here. It may lead to a more streamlined page on food policy.
