Birth date
[edit]The source given for the birth date here doesn't seem reliable. There's this voting record site that lists the same date but two years earlier. I've removed the DOB for now since we don't seem to have a definite RS, but I would be interested in opinions on the 2nd link; is a voting record reliable? Sam Walton (talk) 15:50, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
- It's a voting record I guess, but its on a private commercial website. So its not an official document.
- OK. Well, one thing I want to think about when there's two different birthdates out there is "does the subject have any incentive to appear older or young (and if so, which)?" Athletes and movie actors do, musicians not so much. Lima's an actor. She's in her 30s and she appears to play roles where relative youth might be an asset (common for actresses her age). So there's an incentive there to put out a later birth year.
- (If she had started as a teen, there might have been incentive to put out an earlier birthday, and that info could hang around. But she went to college and then was a production assistant, and doesn't seem to have started acting until her mid-20s. She actually got kind a late start. So there's another reason to knock off a couple years.)
- And the two dates out there -- March 26 1981 and March 26 1983 -- have the same date but just different years. This is a modus you might expect when someone is getting cute with their age. (Jackie DeShannon, same thing. Contrast with say Sonny Liston and Stan Kenton and Gene Tierney, where there is confusion over the birthdate not related to the person trying to appear older or younger -- different dates altogether.)
- So of the two birthdates out there -- March 26 1981 and March 26 1983 -- my tendency is to guess that the older one is probably the true one, and the later one is a "professional" one.
- OK, so now sources.
- March 26, 1981
- Ohio Resident Database. It looks official. But its not. It's a .com, a private business. I wouldn't give it much shrift. It looks like someone's put some resources in the site, though, FWIW. They've got lots of data. Doesn't mean its correct.
- Google, if you search on "Floriana Lima birthdate", comes up with this date. Google's a big outfit, but I don't know where they get their info -- maybe from Wikipedia.
- March 26, 1983
- IMBd. Not worth much.
- Famous Birthdays. I guess you'd expect an outfit whose name says "Our business model is supplying you with correct birthdates, and only that" to kind of try to get these things right. But I don't know. Look of site does not inspire confidence.
- The Arrow wiki. It's worthless.
- Famous Fix, whatever that is. Worthless.
- a site called "AgeEyeHairColor". I've run across a couple site that are like "Floriana Lima height weight bra size" too, which is actually kind of creepy. I consider this site essentially worthless.
- Yadda yadda. These sites are mostly copying each other or Wikipedia, probably. Here's someone on the IMDB message board complaining about exact same problem. None of these sites are really worth much.
- I pretty confident that she was born on March 26, 1981, for two reasons:
- 1) The logic of it, as I explained above. I'm pretty confident in my analysis.
- 2) None of the sources are really any good, but the Ohio Resident Database database is the only one that at least feels kind of authoritative.
- It's not enough. It's a WP:BLP. We need a reliable source and we don't have one, so on that basis I'm removing any mention of a birthdate and age from the article. We could also put in "March 26, 1981 or March 26, 1983" (problem being we don't really have a good source for either), or we could talk about it. Herostratus (talk) 03:36, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
I found another source Voterrecords.com, they claim "All information appearing is a part of public records and can be obtained directly from the government by anyone at anytime." but I'm not sure if this meets wiki standards either. I think you're right, it's best to leave an age off if there's not a reputable source.Movieeditor546 (talk) 17:38, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
