Talk:Flip-up glasses
Appearance
The content here appears to be copied from the patent for flip-up eyewear--see http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7018035.html. Don't think this qualifies as a full-on copyvio, but it should be noted.
- This is the first wiki entry that I made. I'm trying to fix some of the problems you've found with this article. Itler005 22:12, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Expansion
[edit]I noticed there is no article in Wiki-world about clip-on sunglasses, or just clip ons. An article about this, and including this stub about "flip-ups" would be much better in my opinion. Reason turns rancid 20:22, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'm of the feeling this entire article should be deleted.
- As noted above - it's a copy/paste from one patent application.
- The cited people did not invent the flip-ups but invented one style of flip ups.
- Patent 7,018,035 is what the current article is based on. It was awarded awarded March 28, 2006.
- Patent 4,196,981 is Eyeglasses having magnetically positioned flip-up lenses from April 8, 1980.
- If you go to http://patft.uspto.gov and search for 7,018,035 the article has links at the bottom for many other flip-ups.
- That said - if we make the article generic then we end up with a dictionary definition rather than an encyclopedic article. There is one "notable" aspect in that the character Dwayne Wayne wore them. Marc Kupper (talk) (contribs) 08:32, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- I've copy-edited Sunglasses#Lens so that its paragraph about oversize sunglasses, clip-ons, and flip-ups is clearer. If flips or flip-ups become a popular fashion accessory then a sub-section can be added to Sunglasses#Fashion and if flip-up glasses become notable then this page can be re-created. Merged article content into Sunglasses#Flip-up glasses
[edit]After deleting the advert material and copyvio from the patent application we ended up with a one sentence article. I merged this into the main sunglasses article per the recommendation from DGG on 3 May 2008 (see article history). --Marc Kupper|talk 01:49, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
