GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)

Haven't conducted a review in a while, but let's shake the rust off here.

  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose, spelling, and grammar): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
By and large happy with the writing and layout although one sentence in the lead threw me a little--"Through the size of his army, and possibly using that Septimania and the neighbouring province of Tarraconensis were among the last properly Romanised regions of the kingdom, Paulus succeeded in cementing his authority over Septimania and Tarraconensis as 'king of the east' (rex orientalis), ruling from Narbonne and attempting to break away from Visigothic central rule." I feel like this read a little awkwardly and it took me a few tries to parse it. Perhaps "using the fact that Septimania and the neighbouring province..." might clarify this a little. Aside from this the rest of the article flowed nicely and meets MOS requirements.
Thank you for reviewing! This sentence was very long, so I rewrote it and split it into two, hopefully it should read better now. Ichthyovenator (talk) 09:55, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (reference section): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR): d (copyvio and plagiarism):
Comprehensively cited to a range of print sources; these come from diverse academic backgrounds as well and so should represent a broad array of study. A brief spot check did not turn up any issues with the use of those sources available to read online; paraphrasing or deviation from the material is not an issue that I could see.
  2. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
Breadth is perfect; a brief overview of the contemporary background leads into a more focussed discussion of the subject.
  3. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
Neutral point of view. When assumptions are presented (ie Hispano-Roman identity, death in imprisonment, etc) they are each sourced to multiple scholars/sources so as to present not just one point of view.
  4. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
Stable; rapidly developed but uncontroversial article history
  5. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
Images are both free from Commons, used appropriately. Consider adding alt text to aid with screenreaders, however.
  6. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
Happy to pass this one, there are a few minor points raised there but nothing that would be worth waiting on hold for; well done on this narrow but interesting subject. Gʀᴀᴘᴘʟᴇ ˣ 11:51, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
