Popularity in Japan
[edit]- There is an urban myth in Japan that the story is particularly popular in Japan. But it seems to have been made into a film 5 times in the West. Is it appropriate to start by saying that it is popular in Japan, when it is clearly popular in Europe (or whereever those films were made) too. --Timtak (talk) 06:36, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- I think it is valid to state that the story is popular in Japan since it doesn't matter if it has been filmed 5 times in the West. What matters is that the popularity it enjoys in Japan is not directly related in any way to the popularity it gains in Europe. It could be noted that the story takes place in Europe which would contribute to its popularity in that area. Technically, literally and generally speaking, if The Dog of Flanders is more popular in Europe, would that mean that the story do not deserve to be popular in Japan? Merging A Dog of Flanders (1975 anime) into the article A Dog of Flanders
[edit]I object the merging - one is about the book and one is about an anime series which is part of a series of articles on all the anime series which belong to the famed World Masterpiece Theater series. Acidburn24m (talk) 17:25, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I object, too. The series is notable, enough to have its own article.--Nohansen (talk) 17:53, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
The Motion Picture
[edit]Why is there no separate article regarding the film, when there are listings for cartoon versions? It seems almost an affront to it. --24.47.146.213 (talk) 21:03, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
- If you can create the article, go for it. I, for one, don't have enough knowledge about the book, much less the adaptations to even begin writing an article. Dasmarinas71 (talk) 16:00, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
A question (SPOILLER)
[edit]Are you sure the ending is correct? I remember reading this when I was younger, and if I'm correct it ended with the Nello visiting the grave of his dog and grandfather, as a adult.
Patrasche named after Rubens' dog(?), in painting(?).
[edit]According to the documentary about this subject, the dog Patrasche was named after Rubens' own dog, which is depicted in one of his paintings. Can anybody verify this and name the painting?
There are different dogs in several paintings in the Rubens article. If I remember correctly it was the one in The Elevation Of The Cross, which would make a lot of sense, but like I said, this needs verification. 195.35.160.133 (talk) 10:02, 4 May 2010 (UTC) Martin.
Controversy over location
[edit]I've read the article on gva.be and conclude that it's author did properly look at the book. The book has many clues about the location: "a Flemish village a league from Antwerp" "In the centre of the village stood a windmill" "the cathedral spire of Antwerp rising in the north-east". See [1]
How can Wikipedia place any weight on an article that is so flawed ? -- Nic Roets (talk) 21:12, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Baas or Nicholas ?
[edit]What is the landlord' first name exactly?
In every article in Chinese and Japanese, the name is `Baas Cogez`, also in the book. 妖怪兽 (talk) 15:26, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
I think these movies changed the original name to Nicholas, I am correcting it since the page is about the book. 妖怪兽 (talk) 15:28, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
