Talk:Flahavan

I'd like to know the reasons for deletion.

As far as I can tell, it's a total nonsense article about an, either a word that doesn't exist or is irrelevantly arcane (for example, a google search of the word appears to yield no reference to it). It's also badly written. Lordjeff06 02:58, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, badly written can be fixed. However, it is sensical, in the sense that it has information. It isn't a word, as in one in a dictionary, but it is a term of slang. There could be many things that a google search does not mention, but that doesn't mean not to mention them.

I am from Long Island, Holbrook to be exact, and to be honest, I have heard it before. It originated as a kid's last name, and is used relatively often, but only in the Central Islip and part of the Eastern Montauk area. I agree it is badly written though, I will help correct some of the grammer mistakes and overall paragraph structure. Maybe its own page isn't necessary, but a "slang" sub-page could be created with this word on it. I know that it is not, however, in reference to the oat-based food products that the company Flahavan's is responsible for producing. It is interesting to see an article on this; I will look into the matter. Kman124, 10:13 pm EST, 14, Feb. 2007.

As far as I have mentioned, it was from Long Island, which Kman124 has agreed to. I would agree to having it a sub-set part of another page, however, I do believe it deserves to be noticed. --Shawdow 03:30, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Making this a stub would also be suitable. --Shawdow 03:22, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As a Long Island (Farmingville) resident, I have realized the popularity of the term. The usage of this word has notably increased within the past year. There are several grammatical and sentence structure errors that should be corrected. As of right now, the article provides enough information beyond the basics to educate the viewers, and I hope that someone can help expand this stub. Ok, I stand corrected. While I still question the term's notability, it seems more controversial than I had orginally realized. To that end, I have removed the deletion tag and replaced it with both the cleanup and stub tags. Lordjeff06 04:28, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, and I'll try furthur, as well as other people, to clean it up, and expand on it. --Shawdow 12:41, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The term "Flahavan" is not just a nonsense word, let me tell you. It could, for all you know, be a term of endearment, or just a slang term that kids in the area like to yell out. I, for one, am not against the usage of the term, although it may offend the person it originated from.

Please, delete this article. It serves no purpose. It was a joke originally. Please delete on request of the person who is based off the word.

Disambig

[edit]

I've turned this page into a disambiguation page for the surname Flahavan, as I cannot locate any reliable sources to verify that the term is used how it was described. While the term may indeed be used, please remember that the threshold for inclusion within Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. Kyra~(talk) 23:10, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
